:bang head:Has any body else had problems getting into neutral and getting green neutral to come on. If so let me know. I have heard that the vmax is not neutral friendly. Surely there must be room for improvement. I replaced the neural switch twice and no change.
Recntly replaced clutch No help. In order to hit on neutral i have to come to complete stop turn off engine turn ignition back on and reach down and grab shifter an jerk up shifter gigel a little and it goes into neutral and neutral switch comes on. Gets worse when hot. This is on a 2000 vmax. For more info. look under forestry62 messages.:ummm:

Change the fluid, that usually helps and replacing the oem line with a braided line will help also

Thanks Rhoy. I recently changed fluid to yamalube 10w40w from 20w50w whitch helped a little ........ what does replacing oem line with a braided line mean?........forestry62

The steel braided line won't expand like the oem will. More pressure to the clutch slave, more disengagement is the result. True on brakes too. Talk to Sean about a set. Well worth it. My 89 doesn't give me much trouble going into neutral from 1st gear. I think you aquire a bit of a touch after a while.I used to kick it between neutral and 2nd alot.

mine gave me a bit more trouble after i upgraded the clutch, jut blip the throttle tho, usually that does it.

Have you changed the brake fluid in the Clutch Master and Slave System?
Brake Fluid gets old and the clutch won't fully disengage..

Re: Neutral Shift Hard to Hit (forestry62)

I always found that the best way to find neutral is, from first gear at a standstill, simply let out the clutch a tiny bit so the bike moves by a few inches and click the gear lever up lightly, and into neutral it pops.
Even easier, when you know you're about to stop, is to half-click down from second gear while still moving, mine always went into neutral that way very easily.

sdt354, Thanks for the info on braded and oem lines. Will have my machnic look into this..........Thank,Ken (forestry62)

A braided line will not help you find neutral IMO.

Is the clutch working properly? Is the lever firm? Does it disengage the transmission fully? Can you put the bike in gear and pull the clutch in and move the bike around easily (after the oil is warm, not cold). If not, you may have air in the clutch line. If that is the case, bleed the clutch.

Fresh oil

Check shifter adjustment

All else fails, open the clutch. Inspect the plates, basket, segment, and shift rod that runs through the case.

[email protected]..........thank you for your help.........clutch works good .....new clutch installed 1 year ago..........fresh oil...........clutch shifter adjusted good.............was told to try braided line???????........still no relief:bang head:

A little late but I just joined and reading thru a lot of the posts for ideas and mods. I had this same problem and had the shift drum under cut..like magic it finds neutral like I find a cop everytime I decide to turn that throtle a little too much.
I know this is a bigger mod then you are looking for but while its out getting cut you can do some of the other cool mods in here. DEF recomend the COPs.. just did and wow..very nice!!
