I use a Slipstreamer Spitfire windshield - really helps a lot with the neck ache!

I can recommend Schuberth helmets - picked up a Concept C1 for $100 second-hand and it's way quieter than any other I've had before. I also hear that their S1 helmet is the quietest of them all.

I have a Corbin fitted to my bike, but unfortunately whoever got it was a short-arse and had it cut down to be as low as possible, so the padding is thin and it still hurts my butt after an hour, more so now that I've swapped my bars so I sit up more than before..

Any one seen those gel of beads pads you can just throw over the seat anywhere?

And I'm well jealous of your mpg - most I got out of a tank so far was 98 miles, and that was gran'ma riding all the way..

Are you talking about those flexible round bead pads? If so, I tried one years ago and tossed it immediately! It really was uncomfortable to me. Think about a bunch of hard wood marbles poking you in the behind. Supposed to allow air flow but the comfort problem was worse than a sweaty arse.

Schuberth helmets do not fit me at all. Just the wrong shape head and jaw. I have about seven other helmets, (Shoei, Bell, Nolan and another HJC). I use the Shoei or Nolans for trips, just tried the HJC Symax to see how it would do since it is one of those flip-ups that is great in hot weather. It was about 90 today on our trip to Waco.

I have a Slipstreamer Hellfire that works great except in hot weather. If its really hot, the engine heat comes up into your lap and you get roasted nuts. Would be great in cooler weather though.

On the gas mileage, all the stuff we try with our carbs probably hurts mileage. My carbs are completely stock except for the air screw adjustment. It still seems a little rich even with Kerker slip-ons. I do sync with the Morgan CarbTune often though.

Point taken :biglaugh: I still wanna try one of those gel pads tho..

Shame about the Schuberth.. I thought it was a little tight on my chin when I first tried it on, but having worn it for a while now it's actually just fine. Amazingly good ventilation, and so much quieter than my Nolan and my old Shoei - weird as it's a flip-up and the other two are not!

Is the Hellfire kinda big? The Spitfire is (I think) the smallest they make, so it's not too bad on ventilation while still helping the neck ache a LOT :eusa_dance:

Mine's completely stock inc. the exhaust. I so need to get me a carbtune.. BTW, how do you go about adjusting your air screws? Any tips? I know Lankee's way, but I don't happen to own a laser temp gun :confused2:

I just went to Helen Ga last weekend and got 42mpg....and that was twisting the throttle very hard..i got up to 125mph a few times. Last week during the commute travel...stop and go I got 35mpg. my air mix screwa are all at 2 3/4 turns out with K&N air filter, full Kerker exhaust system other than that my bike is all stock. hope this helps

I have had two seats with gel pads. Didn't really notice any improvement but that may vary with each individual. Did notice a problen in very hot weather as the pad seems to absorb heat and deform slightly. Gets very hot and takes a while to cool. I have had better luck with a thick high quality sheepskin pad.

My main problem was jaw room. Mine hit the cross bar. Also didn't fit my head shape comfortably.

It is not the biggest but is bigger than the Spitfire.

I use the old method of adjusting via idle changes. Is on a sticky here I believe. I have two laser temp guns including an Extech with adjustable emissivity and a small pocket size one that I use for comparison only, not for exact temps.

thanks for all the info. I really need to get my a sync tool for my carbs then maybe play with the air screws. Saying that, other then the poor-ish mpg the bike's running pretty sweet. Only prob is sometime off idle and really low down - not as happy as it could be.

WORDS OF WISDOM......

after installing carbs back on the bike make sure to check that they are still seated properly after your first few miles of riding
if not they will run like my old LADA in the rain

Your tick over speed is a bit high. Reset to 1000 rpms and see if the right side still gives you trouble. 1200 rpms might be enough to let bypass holes to be uncovered by throttle valve.

I would verify sync and that your carbs are fully seated in the boots.
