So one of my buddies just picked up a used but immaculate 2008 M109R, since he got cut off by a car last fall and wrecked his Shadow(he escaped with only a cracked elbow and some bruises, was at like 30 mph).

Anyway, he's totally sure that it will take my Gen 1. Even with 600cc's on my Max, I don't think so. That thing's a tank. Fat 'n heavy, though it's got a 240 rear tire on it so I imagine it hooks up pretty good, something my Avon has major problems with in any of my first three gears.

Checking the stats, I'm more sure. The Zooky's rated at 125hp(@crank, it's a shaft also) and 120ft/lbs of torque, pushing a bike that is approaching 800lbs wet. My Max dyno'd at 166hp@ crank, pushing about 600lbs wet. We're both about equal weight.

I'm thinking it might take me off the line due to my pedophile-at-a-petting-zoo hard Avon tire that just likes to spin through 3rd gear if I venture anywhere near WOT. But I'd catch up by the end of second, and be gone from there. Most reports put the 109's top speed right around 130mph, no contest for the Max there(as long as it don't wobble).

Anybody lined up to one of these? I know I will in the spring, but in the meantime we can have an imaginary pissing contest about which is faster.

To the best of my knowledge you got him dead to rights if youre both equally capable at launch.

The bike has some juice for sure, and I would love to own one as my commuter bike but in a race the Max will take it.

IF IM RIGHT...
The light will go green, you will spin your tire(smoke it first or do it at a light after a long enough ride that it will be hot to lessen the effect) hell launch well on that fat tire then drop power like a brick at top end where you will take him.It will be close but I think you got him handled.

But Ive been wrong before...

We've got a few members with both bikes. The 109 is quick for a twin but even a completely stock Vmax will kill it.

Had my pleasure of running one, like others have said, its a quick V-Twin, But it was no match at any point. Could have been the rider, The bike, Both:confused2:

I was not all that impressed.

well if your buddy is calling you out on the vmax I'd go out and see what it does, he might come with a different opinion.:whistlin:

It's all in good fun, it's not like he's "calling me out" about my claim, but you can be sure we'll line up at a convenient light.

On a side note, how do you think the M109 would do against a v-rod? One of my other friends is trading in his 87 Shadow 1100 for a V-rod, I imagine that could be a pretty close race, though from what I've heard here the Hardly is Hardly a match for the Max either.

Any twins out there that will take the Max, or give it a good run? I know the I4 sportbikes and such can take it, but the only two cylinder I can think of would maybe by one of those L-twin 1100's from Ducati.

horsepower and torque says the m109r, vrod, and gen 1 max are equal, but all of the magazines that do muscle tests still say the vmax is king. you be the judge

weight, RPM, gearing meh

i know its all in fun, always nice to see a race anyways.

why your buddy want the v-rod, never thought of the 109?

2nd gear 4500 RPM launch and its over before 4th.:punk:
Raced a buddy on an 09 in Boise, Not a chance. Then he wanted to go from a roll...now THAT was even more embarrassing for him.

I dunno, he's really set on the v-rod for some reason. I'd take a 109 over the v-rod any day, but whatever. His money.

Always seems to be extra embarrassing when the bike that smokes you is 10 years older, and has a significantly smaller displacement engine. I remember getting odd looks when I took brand new Harleys with my 25 year old 500cc Magna.

Ducs will run , + 1

The 109 may win the race but it will be close for them. Even a poor vmax rider will smoke both bikes normally. Torque may start the mass moving but once rpm's are up in first gear it will become a HP/Weight race and the Vmax wins everytime. The sad part is a 600cc sportbike (made in the last 5-10 years) will whoop the Vmax. That's half the cc's again.

There is no twin out there that will beat the Vmax yet. We did have a car tire Harley that I was actually shocked on. It felt fast but it wasn't until I had a friend ride the max that I found out just how fast. As long as I didn't miss a shift and he let me hit it first he couldn't pass me. I wasn't pulling away but he just couldn't make up the gap. I think if I was riding the max it may have been a different story but it still wouldn't have been a crushing. That Harley was far from stock. There are pics of it on the facebook site I think.

Nice!:punk:

To be fair, the 96inch HD would pass me by about 80. I ran away off the line and gained distance, then by 65 or so he would start to close the gap, and slowly walk past at around 80. Still, quite respectable for a bike with less than a third of the engine. That thing was fast off the line, first gear was super low. Plus it only weighed like 450 pounds full of gas. Still, the little mill just ran out of beans much past 100....you could actually go faster in 5th than 6th. 11,500 RPM (redlined)in 5th gear was right about 115. Shift to sixth and nothing happened. No more speed to be had.

To be honest you can take a Suzuki Burgman or a honda silver wing & really piss off some bikes them things run for so called scooters.

I have a reflex 250 that I use to piss off squids on backroads.

tops out @ 75ish though heh.

I've ridden a 109. The vmax stock will eat it's lunch

I've gone up against 3-4 M109's and smoked 'em all from a dead stop all the way to 110 or so.
if you launch well and don't spin the **** out of the tire on the launch you should too, even if you do spin the **** out of the tire like Sean said you'll still pass him up by the 2-3 shift.

There are several Vtwins that will absolutely kill the Vmax but they are all European sport bikes, in my opinion (and experience) the cruiser V-twin hasn't been made yet that will outrun the Max except for the Vrod which is a close second, so close that it's a "drivers race"

Did you mean a modified Vrod?

An acquaintence of mine bought a new 08 Vrod and we did several roll-ons. He claimed he wasn't proficient enough to do a standing start run.

It wasn't even close. Maybe he was just jacking with me. :confused2:
