Glue in the air box..is it normal?

Today is a rainy day and I have taken advantage of the opportunity to do some minor maintenance work. When I removed the air box I noticed that on the lower part of the outside, the part that goes into the carburettors, there is a thread of glue next to the nozzles, and I don't know to what extent this is so or if it was the previous owner who did this when he noticed a leak. I certainly never noticed this detail on my previous Vmax. Suspecting that it had a leak, I reassembled the box ensuring that it was correctly seated on the carburettors. I started the bike, waited for it to warm up a bit and sprayed a bit of carburettor cleaner on the base of the boots and perhaps it accelerated very very very little. I must say that for the amount of spray I put on it hardly accelerated at all. I don't know if that thread of glue has anything to do with it. I am attaching some photos.

It doesn't make sense. The boots are one piece. The only thing I can think of is that it was to prevent oil leaks through the walls of the carburetor... I don't know, it's crazy.
 
I could see that if the boots were old, tired, and brittle, and perhaps no-longer supple-enough to provide a decent seal between the boot and the box, that someone used a schmear of contact cement or 'gorilla snot' to seal them up.

You already did the carburetor cleaner spray on the boots to see if the RPM's increased, and by your report, very-little happened to increase the RPM's. I'd say that you can probably leave things alone and ride it to see how things are.

If you took off the carburetors for cleaning/servicing, once you replace them, you should synchronize them. Your idle and the throttle response will thank-you.

Anytime that the carburetors are removed part of the reinstallation should be to check the synchronization. It's very likely that you will notice a difference in idle and throttle response from performing synchronization after having removed and reinstalled your carburetor rack.
 
Aún no he tenido que sacar el carburador. Compré mi 2005 con apenas 7000 millas después de mi fatídico accidente con mi anterior Vmax. Aunque es cierto que he tenido que ir a por todas en un par de ocasiones para solucionar el problema de los fallos de encendido en los bajos, que ya está solucionado. Hasta que sea estrictamente necesario prefiero dejar los carburadores puestos. Ahora resulta que tengo más tiempo libre que nunca en mi vida ya que el accidente me ha dejado inválido permanente y no tengo nada más que hacer que dedicarle tiempo a mi Beast. Todo tiene un lado positivo.
 
I haven't had to take out the carburetor yet. I bought my 2005 with just 7000 miles on it after my fateful accident with my previous Vmax. Although it is true that I have had to go all out on a couple of occasions to solve the problem of misfires in the underbody, which is now solved. Until it is strictly necessary I prefer to leave the carburetors on. Now it turns out that I have more free time than ever in my life since the accident has left me permanently disabled and I have nothing else to do but dedicate time to my Beast. Everything has a positive side.
