An unusual conveyance, looks practical for its intended purpose. Anyone in the U.K. seen one?

Not come across that one, but weirdest 2 wheeled motorcycle I've come a cross is the Ner-a-car

Many years ago I went to library and found a book on British motorcycles and there used to be a huge number of manufacturers; this included bolt on engines that powered a bicycle; one of which sat inside the wheel hub.... 99% of them are gone.

Funnily enough whilst looking through the pages, I recall overhearing a conversation where it was said that there was single cylinder engine (possibly BSA) that could backfire when idling and then run backwards surprising the rider as he/she tried to pull away.... never figured out if that was possible.

A single-cylinder two-stroke with the timing set incorrectly will easily run backwards. Dan Gurney manufactured a series of recumbent motorcycles called the alligator which are very collectible pretty much each one was different as he modified the design. He frequently used single cylinder engines. There is a famous ad for Montesa that shows Dan Gurney riding one of their 250 dirt bikes and jumping it, he's wearing dress slacks and dress shoes.

I got his autograph at Daytona or Sebring, I forget which. I also saw him race Formula 1 at Watkins Glen in the 1960s. He eventually developed his own chassis the Gurney Eagle which used a Harry-Weslake designed V8

Viva Montesa! (Popular ad of the day)
