I knew a guy in Jersey that had something similar on his sport bike, but his was spring loaded. He had the the release ion a cable pull up by the speedometer.

+1. if ya get a 94-96 impala or caprice they have a spring loaded plate holder, it will stay in the down position so cant read the plate. "I swear officer must have been the kid at the gas station that forgot to put it back up" hihihihi

I had thought about something like this, but a lot simpler. Just hang the plate using a couple loops of bailing wire or something. At extra-legal speeds, the wind will just blow the plate up, when going slow it will hang down.

I never actually have tried it, so I don't know if that would actually work.
