does anyone remove some air from the tires not all of it but a little I have heard this is to prevent sidewall cracking? any truth to that?

i've heard LOW air pressure allows the sidewalls to crack. i'd keep it within spec, however there are much more knowledgeable people here than i...

I think age is what cracks rubber, not air pressure. I would also keep it within spec, but would always make sure that both tires are off the ground for a long storage time.

In the UK, when I stored my bike through the winter months, I used to place it on wooden boards to keep it off the ground. It's just good isolation from moisture.

good to know...

if you can't necessarily jack your front tire up, i've used a cheapo walmart rug folded 4 times so its nice and cushy so i don't get any flat spots either...

I use a board that lifts the front tire off the ground 1" or so. It fits under the engine cross brace, between the front headers and with the bike on the centerstand both wheels are off the ground.
A buddy is going to make a platform (steel) so we can work on our bikes off the ground. How high should it be 2 feet? three feet? Any ideas? There are 4 different bikes that have to go on it Vmax, FZ1, CBR600, and YZF600.

I have a bike lift that goes up about a foot and a half. Would like it to go up about 2 feet or so - would be even less bending when sitting on a milk crate.

Brian, I like to sit on a rolling mechanics stool so would make it high enough to slide my knees under to get right next to the bike.
