I have a "3 finger pulley" and cant get this damn flywheel off!
I even used an impact ratchet with no luck!
The ONLY thing that I didnt use is a sledge hammer (which ,its a good thing I love this bike otherwise the mighty sledge would come out of retirement!)
WTF am I doing wrong????

You're doing nothing wrong. I pulled my first wheel with the 3 finger with no problem..2nd one 3 puller did'nt budge it and I even snapped the puller going past it's max limit (I think it broke at about 175 ft lbs torque)

If you want to stop struggling you have to use this (cheaper than what I got mine for)

or you can borrow mine if you spot me the postage

Also after removing center bolt..take out washer and put bolt back minus thickness of the washer (3mm or so). All you need to do is move the flywheel a few mm foward for it to "pop" and then you can take bolt off and pull wheel off by hand. I don't understand people describing flywheels flying across the room unless it's being filmed for the next ******* movie.:rofl_200:

Thomas Powell from the Yahoo lists used to make a kit to over come this problem. It is essentially bolt extensions that produce a more direct pull on the flywheel. When you use this, it takes way less force to remove the flywheel. I've attached a couple of pictures of the kit. I don't know if he makes them any more, but if you want to borrow mine, let me know.

do you use that along with the "3" finger pulley?
seems like the flywheel is binding or something..... everything is straight tho.
If you can Gary, give me your # so I can call you....pm me the # if you'd like.

I left the puller on under tension, went to get a propane torch and it popped off on its own.Actually hit me in the nuts as I was getting ready to warm it up.I tiny bit of rust is very powerfull.I actually put anti-sieze on mine last time it was off.

I have always found that a couple good pops with a sledge on the pullers bolt head works brill! :thumbs up: This of course wasn't on the Vmax but many other flywheels!

ok....I just got through spraying it with lube and wacked the hell outta the pullers center bolt with a ******* sledge hammer!
NOTHING!
Either I take it to the yamaha dealer or my riding season is over!
Thanks for the tool loans guys, but I dont feel comfortable borrowing from others.....you never know if something happens to it.
Thanks for all the advise too.
Shawn....hope your nuts healed....lol
Randy

id try talking to one of the mechanics that work for the stealer and see if hell accept a little under the table cash to come over and help you out

I know it's a lot of money, but is still cheaper than having a stealer do it, and you'll have a tool to do it again the next time. (and I have less qualms than you about borrowing a hunk of steel and would be glad to borrow yours.

Did you leave it over night with pressure on it? :confused2:

They will break loose sometimes like that too...

Its wierd that a $6 chineese puller was able to pull mine off.

Randy,If I was only 2 hours from PCW,I would go even just to check it out.John has helped me many times.

Randy

Get the 12 ton hydraulic puller..Guaranteed to work. If there's enough force to lift a car up with it, it will take the flywheel off. Don't beat it with a hammer..you could be doing damage to other internal stuff.
Shawn..just heard 2nd hand that Cliff's freshly built long rod from PCW is now leaking oil and he ain't too happy about it.
