You haven't mentioned that the tyre run-out has been checked. If that is OK and you are absolutely certain that the bearings are torqued down correctly (see attachment) then, as Mr Zeus36 suggests the next place to check is the rear.

One other point...is it really that sensible to be going that fast on public highways, perhaps it's the bike way of suggesting you should slow down? :rolleyes:

You need to be careful about your driving privileges as-in 'don't do the crime if you can't do the time.' Violation of a civil statute for motor vehicle operation is technically probably-not a crime, but you know the intent of that statement.

I dunno about California, but here in Florida, '20-over' can be written as 'aggressive careless driving' or 'reckless driving,' which could suspend your license, so twice the speed limit is likely confiscation of your motorcycle, impoundment, and chained bracelets for your ride to the county jail.

(1)(a) Any person who drives any vehicle in willful or wanton disregard for the safety of persons or property is guilty of reckless driving.

(2) Except as provided in subsection (3), any person convicted of reckless driving shall be punished:
(a) Upon a first conviction, by imprisonment for a period of not more than 90 days or by fine of not less than $25 nor more than $500, or by both such fine and imprisonment.
(b) On a second or subsequent conviction, by imprisonment for not more than 6 months or by a fine of not less than $50 nor more than $1,000, or by both such fine and imprisonment.

I don't need to say much about what happens to your insurance rates for years after such a conviction on your motor vehicle operator's license (with motorcycle endorsement, as they list it in FL).

Here in Georgia, it's referred to as the "Super Speeder" law. You do more than 75 mph on any two lane road or 85 mph on any road of any kind and you're done.

On top of the speeding fine you'll get on the spot, the state will mail you an additional fine of $200.00. Your license will also be immediately suspended for 30 days. There is a $50.00 fee to reinstate your license.

Failure to pay the super speeder fine results in your license being permanently suspended pending payment of all fines and a court appearance to determine when or if you'll ever get your license back.

Then you get to file SR22 insurance for the next 5 years. Whatever your insurance payment is now, go ahead and multiply it by about 5. That's what it'll wind up being.
 
In the UK 120mph on a motorway with a 70mph limit will net you a fine of up to 150% of your weekly income to a maximum of £2500; between 4 and 6 points on your license (12 points gets you banned) and potentially a ban of between 7 and 90 days.
It would also affect your insurance cost; at best the premium will rise and at worst you may find it difficult to get cover. 😭

Just an idle thought but by offering advice on how to cure the problem could we be accused of aiding and abetting? 😰

Wow !!! You need maximum lubrication if you want to get wild with your bike in the UK !!
And I'm not talking grease, or motor oil....
 
Something that has not been mentioned here, and it's very important, is the body weight of the rider.
Proof of what I'm saying, is the statement that the wobble goes away when you add a passenger.
My friend Sandy spent ****ographic amounts of money trying to get rid of the wobble. he even sent his frame to this company in Tennessee, that charged him over U$600, to put his frame on a jig, to check for any slight misalignment.
He got the frame back, re assembled the bike, and went for a "Spirited" ride, (I was following him on my max)
As soon as he got close to 120mph, his bike begun to shake violently, I thought he was going to wreck and take me out too.
Well he called this place in Tennessee, and explained the 120mph wobble, they told him he shouldn't ride that fast (LOL).

Now, Sandy is about 140 lbs, wet, and with a brick on each pocket.
One day, after listening to the wobble story one more time, I suggested to let me ride his bike on our way back from PA.
Well, I beat the "caca" out of that bike, went to 140mph several times, chopped the gas al high speed, and accelerated again,
and NOTHING happened !!! the bike was smooth as silk at high speed.
It is also worth noticing that, while I was riding his bike, he was following riding mine, and he never experienced any wobble with my bike.

The moral of the story here is:
Sandy is about 140 lbs wet, and I'm about 200 lbs dry
Sandy has original handlebars, I have the Superbike bent on mine (lower)
Obviously, seems to me, the lack of body weight, and upper body strength, is one of the main culprits
The original bent of the stock handlebars is no help either.
Sandy never could get rid of the wobble, and ended up selling the bike.
He bought a supercharged Vmax, that never wobbled, because it never ran properly.

Now that we are both old, he rides a motor scooter around town, and I'm still in love with my Vmax

Pensando en mi licencia, creo que lo mejor sería alejarme de esas velocidades y disfrutar de la Vmax. Es algo innato de la moto, de nada sirve luchar contra ella. Seguramente mi mecánico volverá a repasar todos los puntos clave y seguramente lo volverá a hacer ... a más de 130 mph. Hay mucho para disfrutar antes de 130 mph

i’ve been on them through Stuttgart and surrounding areas. You can go at any speed you can handle!

Its not too far.

5 years ago went from malaga up the east coast to alps,Turin, then north through gap at Switz and Aust, up to Stuttgart.

Brilliant weather in September. Got a speeding ticket near Alicante (did not know the cut-offs reduce the KPH rapidly and the policia hide behind bushes),Then seen the most immaculate VMax ever north of Barcelona.

it was all worth it!
 
Don't leave it too long as they are considering introducing limits.
I heard that also.

When last in Germany there was also talk that the Autobahn is illegal under EU laws, and that companies like Porsche used their might and forced the govt to backtrack on bringing the speed limits online. Not sure if that is all true, but it is definitely worth keeping an eye on. Strange thing is I do not read of many accidents (in comparison to the M6) on the Autobahn, i’ve never been held up on it, but been held up countless times on the M6.
 
There's something about the Yamaha V-Max that people should realize before considering owning one.
The V-Max was never meant to be an Interstate Cruiser, it's riding position is not he best, has high rise handlebars that keeps the wind blast right on your chest, the gas tank is too small for touring, the seating position is not too comfortable, and the stock seat is a hemorrhoid waiting to happen.
It's swing arm drifts and gives very vague feedback , the front end is too high, the forks too thin and poorly dampened, and the frame flexes like wet spaghetti under hard cornering.

Sure !!! there are hundreds of aftermarket items to correct some of these shortcomings, but they're NOT cheap, and not always work

Let's face it, the V-Max was created to be a "Street Brawler", the king of the street, from stop light to stop light, and the monster on the 1/4 mile, displaying the brute force of the V4 engine with an open V-Boost.
Like the muscle cars of the 60's and 70's, the V-Max has power to spare on a straight line, but handling was never part of the repertoire.

After driving sports bikes all my life, the VMax is ultra comfy even as stock. I took my GSXR out for 110 miles and thought I would need an ambulance to get me off it, and decided that was my last trip on that bike without carrying a collapsible wheelchair. Then drove the VMax 400 miles and my ar*e felt so much better.

The Vmax does take allot of experience to handle slowly round roundabouts with crater like pot-holes, but does it all for me even as stock. Maybe the tank is a bit small, but hey I cant have everything. From traffic lights sometimes I let bikes overtake out of sympathy for them, but not always. Love the bike even as stock on long or short journeys.

Riding at unregulated speeds isn't all it's cracked up to be.
A friend of mine (Honda Blackbird) and his son (Ducati ST4) rode through Germany and gave their bikes some welly.
My mate said his Blackbird was superb very stable even flat out but he'd never been so scared when on his bike. Once back below 100 mph he was able to get the seat cover out of his arse....
Following that experience they went round the Nurburgring in the rain...which then became his most frightening experience on a bike! 😱

Exactly!

The Vmax is the 1970 Chevelle SS. It's not a Porsche 911 or a Ferrari 458 (GSXR, etc.) and it's most definitely not a Cadillac DeVille or Lincoln Continental (Harley Davidson, Goldwing, etc.).

Probably same reason why the news does not report road deaths in India, which is significantly higher than UK.

If you recall Not the nine o clock use where Pamela Stephenson read the news, " today there was a plane crash in Bolivia. 65 people died but none of them were British"

Basically we are more interested what's happening on our doorstep, a jack knifed lorry at junction 4 of m25 closing two lanes is more relevant than whether Herr Schwatzmann in an audi rs4 stuffed himself and family into a bridge.
