We have a coon that's been coming around at night raising hell with my wife's bird feeders...so if I get up during the night I'll shine the light out and run him off. That's what I did around 1:00am this morning but no coon....just a great big friggin' black bear standing at the top of the stairs!!

I politely asked him to leave....which he did....but it looks like wifey's bird feeding program is gonna need some minor revisions!! :rofl_200:

Same thing happens to my wife and I when we were at a B&B in Highlands, NC. Heard something moving the chairs on the deck in the middle of the night. Opened the door and saw a black bear getting to the bird feeders (about 3 feet away). Quickly closed and locked the door and went back to bed. Didn't sleep very well afterwards.

I go looking for those critters come Nov here in Va with my smokepole !! But it is a little out of place when it's your back yard .. I made bear turds using mud pushed out of a 1 1/2 pvc pipe and little spray paint I put it around my hunting partners wife's bird feeder . She stopped feeding for awhile then started feeding the birds again so I took a 3" pipe same thing with mud and paint . She freaked out wanted to move this time my hunting partner couldn't keep a straight face after seeing the size of those fake turds !! I wish I put my trail cam up with video oh yea she's Finnish too.

I agree Mike but a blinding flash just didn't seem like a good idea at the time.......:biglaugh:

Now THAT is funny! :rofl_200:

Black bear populations are growing in the state of MO, and nearby AR, but I surely do hope I never have one interfering in my yard, in any way. Dang coyotes are bothersome enough.

We have all manner of wildlife in our neighborhood, last fall we had regular nightly visits from a wolf(but not at mine, it was even give a name of Zane by someone), while there are bear tracks are often found crossing the streets but as of yet there has been no evidence in my neighborhood of cougars but there are 3-4 cougars that roam the eastern U.P., closest one spotted was 20 miles away in Raber. I used to burn my paper but the bears like to scavenge that for whatever they could find and I got tired of cleaning up the mess.
A couple of years ago I had something strange happen though, I could hear something out my kitchen window off the back of my house, my security light over my deck flashed on at about the same time something ran around my deck on the ground and something chasing it ran up the 3 steps of my deck then jumped over my 40" deck railing proceeding on the chase through my front yard. I'm pretty sure it was a couple of the local cat chasing each other but they made a lot of noise especially the one coming across the deck and landing on the ground.
I went out with my big spotlight a couple minutes later but all the excitement was gone. I checked the next day for tracks but could not ascertain the exact tracks and the landing off the deck was in soft sand (grass is still sparse around the foundation of my house).
Edit: Normally a bear will run away if humans show themselves or make noise but if they don't you have the makings of a problem bear that will either have to be live trapped and moved or if it's very brazen/ aggressive it will be shot, most normally by DNR officers but anyone or property threatened can defend themselves, of course.

Yeah, seen lots of bears Steve-o but they really aren't any problem as long as I see them before the dog....that might not end so well.

There's all kinds of things out there at night....all sorts of eyeballs show up in the light, kinda spooky. Heard what sounded exactly like a woman screaming like she was being murdered....raised the hair up on the back of my neck....probly a big cat of some sort, bobcat I 'magine. :th_smilie:

I'm surprised nobody called me on the Beretta for bear defense.....but there's documented proof....here it is:
