Hello, I am from Central California and just purchased a 1988 V-Max about a week ago. The owner was a bit of an excentric older man and stopped riding the bike due to an oil leak. Apparently, it was a loose drain plug although I haven't confirmed that yet. 455 actual miles. Last registered in 2010.
Gas wasn't drained so lots of work to do! From what I have gleaned, lots of good info on this site. Thank you!

That might have 40 year old original tires. Please post lots of pictures of this low mileage gem.

Those tires look like somebody threw on a new pair of OEM equivalent tires as they look brand new to me. Of course the date code on the tire will tell the truth.

Welcome to the forum.

Finally pulled the trigger on my bucket list bike! Drove 13 hours each way to get it home last week. These are so hard to find and getting one at a decent price is almost impossible. Found a late season deal on a 2010 for 10k Canadian with around 8.5k miles on it. Some warm fall weather allowing me to have a few short rides before it goes into storage.

Woops, I'm mistaken. That code would read the 27th week of the 8th year in that decade or July of 1988.

I suppose you guys are going to tell me that its dangerous to even sit on the bike with those tires much less ride it......

They look perfect, and I think they actually add to the "providence" of a bike that has 455 miles. I guess she is a true man cave queen.

1988 back from the dead project completed. Thanks everyone for all the great information and especially to Eric "Traumahawk Trammell at BRC Carb Shop @ 580 656-2318.
He cleaned up my mixers and exemplified the professionalism that this Forum stands for. (This bike actually still had the film protectors over the caliper emblems).
