So I've cheated on the Vmax a little lately. If you read my earlier post you know my best friend moved to Florida. Well he left his '09 night rod special with me until he can get it shipped down. And being the nice guy that he is he left me the keys and permission to ride as I please. So I couldn't resist and have taken it for a couple rides. I have to say that the but dyno really puts them neck and neck to me. I feel the Vrod has more low end than the max which I would attribute to my stage 7 jet kit. As far as top end goes I haven't redlined his bike but I definitely gave some gas getting on the highway the other day and its no slouch I'll give it that. Overall a really nice looking and riding bike. I love the brakes, grips (renthals) and throttle response. Not sure about the riding position. I have a bad hip and tend to think I wouldn't be able to ride it far. It has a handful of aftermarket on it. Pretty much everything that wasn't black factory has been added. It has the standard stuff CFR exhaust, screaming eagle race tuner and K&N filter. Also has an HID headlight which kicks ***.

So it makes me wonder if my bike is really running like doo doo. Should it be that much faster than the vrod? I've read in the past that the max will smoke them. But I'm not so sure now. I don't know maybe that was in reference to the older Vrods with the slightly smaller engines? Or maybe his bike is just running that good with those mods? :confused2:

Either way I still love the Max just the way it is.

that and, u forget how much power the max has until you rev it. its pretty tame from 1-5k rpm

This is true its been quite a few weeks since I last rode the max too. And my Civic doesn't exactly give you that seat of the pants feel :rofl_200:

I have a fairly hot 1200 Sportster with complete 883 gearing so it's similar to the VMax overall. I don't feel cheated when I ride the Sporty, I open the throttle, It pulls the front suspension to full extension in any gear and moves quite well.

When I do notice a difference, is passing a car on the interstate. I can gain 30 -40 mph in a hurry with the Max, The Sportster, maybe 15-25 in the same time.

A VRod with mods will eat my 1200 so the VRod's somewhere in between. A free breathing Rod will easily push 140 hp and all of that going through a belt instead of a shaft. Likely 115 or so on the ground. Stock VRods are Easy, Modified ???? the Max still wins.:biglaugh:

For the price of a V-rod, you could buy a Gen 2 that would make it look like a winnebago being driven by grandma on a sunday afternoon during leaf peeper season.

Or a Gen 1, put some sort of blower on it, buy yourself a full set of riding gear, and still have a pile left for other mods. Someone here had a supercharged Gen 1 that would embarrass a Gen 2 also.

HD is as usual 30 years behind the times. Compared to modern bikes, the Vmax isn't especially fast anymore. It was designed in '85. A brand new Vrod will still get it's *** handed to it by a 25 year old engine stock to stock. So HD still hasn't even met what went for "fast" in 1985, let alone in 2010.

What's attractive about it again?:confused2:
