Well my Max is at my local mechanic/restorer since April. The only things he had to do is install an alarm, new rear shocks, fix a leaky front fork and install a lip spoiler. All in all 2-3 days worth of work...and I am exaggerating.

Forward two months and I still don't have my bike. The last month in particular has been terrible. I am on my summer holidays, the weather is great, and no bike. The guy is like "i will work on it tomorrow"....i must have heard that about 30 times. This week it was really bad. He calls me on Monday and he tells me that the starter motor seized. I went there to check it out myself and thank God it was not the starter clutch. He promised that I will get my bike by tomorrow but I am not holding my breath. I only wish I could just pick it up and take it to another specialist, but as it stands right now it will not start. And the nearest specialist is about 45 minute drive. :bang head:

My Mrs has been really supportive through this time but she is telling me to suck it up...i guess she does not understand the bond between a man and his Max.

Borrow a trailer for the day, and never go back to that guy again.

Is there anyway that you can work on your bike yourself? Most of the people here work on their own bikes....because "professionals" suck.

This forum can walk you thru any issues that you have.

I had to learn the hard way,I don't trust very many at all ,Do most everything myself.Bring it home,April till late July is long enough,Lots of help on here.At least you can fix what you can.at your own pace.I got ripped,Hope it dosent happen to you.

Go to your mechanics shop. Prepare to spend the entire day . Watch everything he does to your bike. He will fix it to get you out of his shop , or he will tell you to take it somewhere else. Either way you will have it back.

yea the first guy I took my bike to was supposed to replace the stator and voltage regulator, which I believe he did. He was also supposed to rebuild the carbs which he definitely did not. Later examination showed that he probably shotgunned them and they were not even connected as a set....the front and rear braces were both held on by only one bolt.

1700 bucks. If you are going to own a VMax you better learn to work on it. I've spent a lot of money on tools for one time jobs but I used to work on cars so some things are the same and I know the job was done and done right.

45 minutes worth of travel time is peanuts in comparison to how long you've waited for this bozo to do that small amount of work. Go get YOUR bike back and take it some place else that will better serve you. It ain't worth the stress to let the bozo continue screwing you out of precious ride time. jeeze.

$20 will get you a trailer with wheel chock from Uhaul for the day and they work great. Quick 45 minute drive and you have a competent mechanic to work on it if you don't feel like attempting it on your own.

EDIT: Just saw you were in Cypress, like another person mentioned you could borrow a trailer

You have to realise that any experienced mechanic, engineer , bike specialist or whatever had a beginning in that they knew little but became competent by completing tasks and learning from their experiences.
Sure they might have a wise hand guiding them along the way, but the the best teacher is yourself.

In other words why not try to do it and learn for yourself? The jobs described don't sound difficult. In this day and age with info that's posted online gives a huge amount of available data to walk thru almost anything related to the job at hand if you want a guide.

Tell the mechanic to shove his 3 months of nothing up his a$$ , collect your bike,
fix your own bike for virtually nothing and reward yourself with sense of self achievement .

Thanks for the words of encouragement guys...problem is I do not have any tools and the way I see it is I delivered a working bike and expect to receive one back...it is a matter of principal. Yes i guess i can go and sit in his workshop and not move a muscle until he fixes it. As for money, i will probably make him wait a couple of months before i pay him. The way he did with fixing my bike. He is not that fussy with money. Here in Cyprus people are more laid back. You can get your bike fixed and pay whenever.

For what his charges have cost you, you could have a nice set of tools at your disposal. Grab the bike back, read through the tutorials here and tell him to **** off. He clearly has no ******* clue as to the inner workings.

Three months isn't that bad (sarcastic). I made a deal with the local body shop owner. He was going to paint my pickup and I built a room in his shop, then insulated and sheet rocked it all. I worked on his shop every day after my regular job and on weekends for almost two months until it got done. He had my pickup for over three years. The warranty on the new motor I bought for it expired before I got to start it.

Man if you could some how pick up the bike and buy your self a small millimeter tool kit. The guy's here will work you through the repairs.

Learn the work yourself. Tools are not expensive. Most pros aren't and even when they are they don't give a **** about your bike.

Why anyone would let their property sit in someone's shop for months on end not being worked on I just can't understand....
