So I sent off my rear wheel several weeks back to Kosman's here in California to be modified to 17 inches. I was called about 10 days ago stating that they no longer do the bolt-together conversion but instead weld it up. They asked me if I wanted to machine off the weld bead, but being that I love how a good quality weld looks I told them to leave it.

They call it the stacked dime look. VERY NICE! Are you polishing or painting it?

Sent from my iPad using special algorithms and data nodes.

@ WrongHack no worries, I paid $695
@ 4 gasem I'm just going to hand polish it. I love how the weld looks.

Nice looking, will polish up nice I bet. Is this wheel available in 18"?
Stock offset?

Yes it is.

I called before I sent it because I remember someone on this forum stating that they no longer do the 17" and was glad they still did. So my recommendation is to call first and talk to someone there.

steve you won't be disappointed, i had the same thing done to an '85 i think it looks bad-ass...

This is what an 18" bolt-up version looks like after powdercoating and striping. (On my homemade balancing stand).

i'd probably go 18" again if i could do it all over, but the 17 is nice too and i think it'd be better with a 190/55 vs 190/50

Because the swingarm gets narrower the farther in you go, the biggest tire I could fit on my 18" Kosman was a 170/60. Had to do the washer swap to even get that in. It is 4/10" larger in diameter (1.25" in circumference) than stock so it doesn't look too small in the fender-well or change the gearing much. Not as good a selection of tires though. Only a couple 170's and the rest 160's.

the 17 works great, and with the new rubber made for the vrod ( 190/60-17 ) it is the same height as the original vmax set up...no rpm issues!!! it come out the same height as stock...sweeet!

what tire are you running 190/60. that sounds like a good size tire for our use case

Are we talking 17 or 18 inch here? Stock vrod rear is 18". 18 tire selection is my main concern. It's very limited.
