Finally finished the led lighting project. The right side scoop has the fins already cut out from the factory, the left side I had to cut out with an exacto knife. I wired everything in to the headlight fuse, and mounted a toggle switch above the left scoop. I bought the two led lights in the scoops from NAPA, the toggle switch came from autozone, and the (4) 30cm flexible strips came from fleabay. When I mounted the strips above the front cylinder, I had to remove the rubber flap between the radiator and head, so the lights would shine down on the engine. This is my first attempt at posting pictures....I hope it works!!

Forgot the picture of the switch!! The scoop lights look awesome, the pictures don't do them justice.

Found ONE more pic! I tried several different types of leds in the scoops, finally found one that gave off enough light to be seen. Had to play around with the placement also....its amazing how much a few degrees of angle makes a huge difference on appearance. I'm glad its finally done!!!!!!!!

Looks great. :punk: Can't do anything like that up here. Forward facing red lights aren't legal.

I have red LED's hidden and pointing at the engine. I'm waiting still for my red tubes for under the bellypan. Just scored a remote switch from eBay for cheap. I think via eBay I have the light tubes, 10 high output LED's and the remote switch for under $36.00 minus shipping

do you have any pics without the flash and in lower light, that show off the lighting a little more?

Might I suggest photo's with NO flash :)

It will allow us to see the LED's and the job they are doing a little better!
Also try to get an angle away from the headlight

Looks awesome! Love to see some more photos!

Thanks for the kind replies! I tried to take pics with no flash, but unfortunatly the camera I am using is a P.O.S.. My sons good digital camera was stolen about three weeks ago when we were on vacation. Must have been someone we know, we keep a spare house key outside and when we returned home my sons camera was missing from the place he keeps it. Nothing else was missing from the house (thank god), so we figured it was one of two possible people---of course when confronted, he denied it. Needless to say, we don't keep a key outside anymore. Anyways, here are the pics---best the 5 Megapixle camera can do!!

GOOD WORK ! LOOKS F!@#$*G COOL !:punk:

Thanks. Now I am worried......I never bothered to check and see if forward facing red lights are legal in Ohio. I better check it out-don't want to get unnecessary attention from the police!! It would really suck to find out they are illegal after all that work! Duhhhhhh

Did you wire the lights in the scoops with some type of a quick disconnect to make removal of the scoops easier?

Any insight you can provide on the wiring would be mucho appreciated! The PO of my max wired to blue led's up and double sided taped them to the lower part of the scoops between the carbs. He then wired them direct to battery... and mounted the switch under the seat. To top it all off, one is blue and one is more purple..... So I think It's time to redo them properly.

Odie , I really like the mesh around the scoops. I'm thinking about leds inside the scoops with the mesh and cutting out the yamaha logos , filling with see through silicon . Somebody did that a year or so ago and it stuck with me. How did you fab the mesh ?

Zippo, The wiring is super easy. I used a T-Tap to tap into the wire that comes out of the headlight fuse (little black box under front seat). I came out of the T-tap with a short piece of wire and into a fuse holder and fuse from the auto parts store, and then ran the wire to a switch that I installed in the plastic above the left scoop. Come out of the switch and run to all your LED's. Added ground wires for all. Use zip ties to secure the wires along the frame rails. All of the lights would be pretty easy to replace or remove if needed. I should have documented the whole thing with pics, but when I was doing it, I was in "trial and error" mode. If I have the thing apart again, I will take some pics of the wiring and placement.
