Luggage

Ok guys I have a couple weekend trips coming and was wondering what you guys use for luggage. I don't want big permanently mounted bags just something to strap on for weekend trips and take back off when I get home. just wondering what others are using pros cons ect. No one will be riding on the back seat since my wife has her own bike so I was looking at tail bags but look forward to everyone's input.

Soft sided bags by a number of makers are probably what I would recommend. I got a set of Honda branded bags at a dealership closeout years ago, they have worked well for the rare times I have used them. Take great care they do not interfere w/your wheel or brake! Some have aluminized shields for exhausts. Trial fit them & ride locally to see how they are before the trip.

that would work if I had a sissy bar i would prefer a tail bag that fits well or small saddle bags

I just use a military duffle on my back, lol. It works great though and its relatively watertight.

It is critical on longer rides in hot weather. Keeping hydrated is important.

I recently posted up some bags for sale. They probably take about 15-20 minutes to install I would guess. Maybe a little more but surely not too long.

If you were to purchase a Cyclistic rack (vendor ad below) and one of these setups from DrySpec and you should be all set for solo travel. DrySpec has may options to add-on more and/ or larger bags which all interconnect to strap onto your bike securely.

I built a rack from coper pipe which holds a Givi top case. It uses the top shock bolts and the weight is carried by the back seat. It's not finished cosmetically, but functions 100%. It's takes about a minute to remove the whole thing. Nothing beats a hard case for travel.

Three trips around southern Europe 5000 to 9000 miles each with this Givi Wingrack setup.

two E41 Givi keyless panniers - 2x41L
E55 top box 55L
Oxford tankbag expandable to 40L, never unfolded it though.
two toolrolls with 1.5L alum petrol bottles each: one at the front, another under the top box.

The handling is a bit tough when riding full load with a pillion down a twisty road due to steering shake around 40mph - need to keep the masses both mine and the passenger's as back as possible to ease the shaking. Just fine otherwise.
