Anyone using one? If so, what is the total length?
Better still - is anyone using an OEM final drive magnetic plug, as their oil sump plug?
I have an extra, because of the venture Pumpkin that I purchased a few years ago.
Looks to be the same thread diameter and pitch as the oil plug, I just want to make sure that the magnet itself would not interfere with any of those wild spinning parts in the crankcase:biglaugh:
Cheers!

A Vmax specialist here in the Netherlands gave me the advise of taking out the magnet in the plug of the final drive. They can come loose. With all the crap giving that..... later models dont have the magnet if i am correct.

So i defenitly would not put it in/replace in with the engine oil bolt

Never thought of that.......won't be using it for the crankcase!
I'll shop around for a mag. plug designed for the purpose.
Thanks!

I used a final drive plug in my '99, '06 & '96, never had an issue.

I have run a small hi powered dime sized contact magnet on the outside of my filter housings too....probly works just as well as the drain plug magnet.

Thanks, Dan.
I've been using filter magnetic bands on the bike and car for years now. Guess it can't hurt.
I'll have to check my spare pumpkin plug, to see how well the magnet is attached.
Cheers!

My '85 had a magnet in both the crankcase and final drive, so there is room.

+1 magnet in the oil pan is about a 3/16 in long.
Wait a minute---------it's metric-:rofl_200:---------4.7625mm:clapping:

4 years with the magnetic plug. Only micro particles collected.. So far, working as expected.

As noted the early years came with the magnetic plug. I suspect that Yamaha quit putting them there because people were complaining about the particles they would fine on them.

Why would they complain it is doing exactly what it is designed to do.? Keep the metal particles from cycling in the engine and wearing out parts quicker.
I have a magnetic drain plug in every engine I own.

You know, they are those that complain that water is wet. LOL!

Never saw one of them Eric....pretty slick!

I like it, you basically clean it out with brake cleaner, put it back together. In the add, it talks about the "cooling" fins on the oil filter.....I dont really know about that, but everything else has worked pretty well. I like it because I can take the filter apart, and look at the filter media for particles....etc.
