Magnetic oil plug

So far so good with it here. I do get some minor metal filings at oil changes. Anyone else get that?

I had a couple after this last oil change, a little concerning. Not much I will do about it. Hopefully the next change will be filings free.

Ive been using harddrive magnets on my oil filter for years..even on my autos..strong as hell and free for me

Anyone using one? If so, what is the total length?
Better still - is anyone using an OEM final drive magnetic plug, as their oil sump plug?
I have an extra, because of the venture Pumpkin that I purchased a few years ago.
Looks to be the same thread diameter and pitch as the oil plug, I just want to make sure that the magnet itself would not interfere with any of those wild spinning parts in the crankcase:biglaugh:

Which makes me wonder why Yamaha decided to ditch this low-tech but effective feature.
Maybe the same dude that made this decision, also decided to eliminate the air manifold system....and the drain plugs.... on the forks, when they were "improved".

Good point Miles, Same as their crappy ass coils they have been passing off for years. Some get it some don't. Chime in. Not going to name names.

A Vmax specialist here in the Netherlands gave me the advise of taking out the magnet in the plug of the final drive. They can come loose. With all the crap giving that..... later models dont have the magnet if i am correct.

So i defenitly would not put it in/replace in with the engine oil bolt

Same specialist who said that it's normal for a Vmax to make 85 miles with a tank, after he done two carb services on mine with stock set up doing only 73 miles on my bike.

anyway, the only thing that I find about the magnet on the plug, is that seems a bit weak in magnetic power, apart from it, it makes sense to be there.

Yes, those things are dangerously strong..

Question, Where do you mount it, on the oil cap??
If so, how do you keep it in place without hard bumps re-positioning it or knocking it off?

I just put them on and go....so far none have fallen off

Trust me Miles, Those fork drains are as useless as tits on a boarhog.
