Paid a deposit and picking up a 2009 with 30k in a few weeks, I'm a previous Gen1 owner and from searching the forums, seems like the Gen2 bikes are really well sorted out; I'm having to adjust my mindset since the Gen1 needed a lot of work to make it reliable (crimp fix, coil on plugs, rectifier). I plan to ride it for 100-200 miles to get a baseline feel, then do standard maintenance, please advise if there is anything missing from this list you'd recommend:
Clutch slip seems to be what happens when you use Yamalube/don't use yamalube/use synthetic/don't use synthetic. I'm slightly concerned about doing an oil change and creating a problem, seemed like there is no consensus on recommended fluid. The bike has a thundermax exhaust but is otherwise stock (performance wise) from initial inspection, so jsut expecting to complete the maintenance and see what happens.
Any other recommendations from the seasoned Gen2 riders out there?
- Oil and filter change
- Brake and clutch fluid flush
- Radiator flush
- New spark plugs
- New Battery
- New Air Filter, remove airbox restriction
- Depending on visual inspection, new tires and brake pads
