Re: need input, from evrybody! about the US of A

Your map looks like you might already plan to do this, but you really should cross from Montana into Wyoming over Bear Tooth Pass, going south from Red Lodge, MT and then west through Cooke City into the north entrance to Yellowstone, then out the east gate of Yellowstone to Cody, WY. Some of the most gorgeous riding in the country. And you should see the Buffalo Bill Historic Center & Museum in Cody.

ive heard montana is the most wonderful place, if i hit the lottery id move out there if its as good as the cowboys say it is. but its also the lowest salary per household state isnt it? which is kind of my problem right now. but ya i have to see yellowstone before it gets all permanently closed off someday due to pollution or whatever the hell the commies decide.

-blkmax - exactly, i dont wanna go my whole thinking i COULD have, SHOULD have, WOULD have gone... i just wanna do it. and hopefully come back a little wiser. i'll have my own opinion on this country.

-miles - thanks for pointing that out to me, ill go ahead and plan on hitting some of utah too.

-yank - ill have to check out the first one for sure, but whats this sundown celebration you speak of?

If you're at all into thrill rides/roller coasters, you definitely need to stop at Cedar Point, Sandusky OH. It's seriously the best park in the country. Been there three times and always have a blast. If you poke around their website a bit, you can find special deals if you buy your ticket online in advance.

Otherwise, stop by Schroon Lake NY and I'll take you to "Adirondack Extreme", a bit south in Bolton Landing. It's essentially an obstacle course 100ft in the air in the trees. It's pretty wild and not that expensive....I think $30 gets you access to everything all day. I can show you some really good bike roads around here also. If you want to chill out we could go out on the boat and go tubing or waterskiing or booze cruising. Had a jetski up until 2 weeks ago when the motor blew.

There's a Dinosaur BBQ in Troy now. I've been to that one and the "original" Syracuse one. The Troy location is about 3x the size and you don't have to wait 3 hours to be seated at 2pm on a tuesday, and the food was awesome as expected. Plus they have a huge patio that sits on the Hudson.

Key West Sunset Celebration is called a "nightly arts festival" located at Mallory Square Dock. Translated - A place where ALL types of folks gather buy cheesy souveniors and pay street people to train cats......:punk:
Mallory Square 1 Whitehead St. (305) 292-7700

I've heard rumors of the fantastic riding roads in NW Arkansas in/and around Eureka Springs Arkansas, and that along about the 3rd week of June is the absolute best time to explore them. Ask Train460 for the 2012 dates and details.

Definately Skyline + Blue Ridge + Tail of the dragon.

Henry Ford Museum in Detroit if your making any off bike sight seeing stops.

Tons of stuff to see in DC, but its so crowded pretty much year round :bang head:.

Mackinac Island between lower michigan and the u.p.

The wife & I are planning on doing most of the BRP, and on up the Skyline, across Penn scenic 6, then up to Niagra Falls later this summer. I'll be on the Rune and dragging a trailer. I hope there's time to see parts of Michigan before turning southbound towards the end of the trip.....aprox 3400 miles. My behind is already beginning to complain about it and the trip hasn't even started yet.

I think you better take about three months off!

Grand Canyon, Redwood forest, Yosimite, Canyon lands, Pikes Peak, so much to see.

jfeagins, mattness -
On my way home from South Carolina two years ago, I followed Penn. rt 6 eastward, from Mansfield and into N.Y.state. WELL worth it-very scenic, not too much traffic. Next year (God/Wife willing), I am planning to pick up 6 again at Mansfield, but heading west this time. To do this I will be coming down on rt.15 from Corning, N.Y.
jfeagins- If you are planning to go to Niagra, you will probably be going north on 15. The reason I mention this is that another forum member, mabdcmb(Mike), reminded me of the "Pennslyvania Grand Canyon", which is on rt 15, at Tioga. Apparently a "must see"!
Cheers!

Duly noted Miles. Thanks for that tidbit.

Re: need input, from evrybody! about the US of A

you know i have heard a lot of good things about northern michigan but i'm just too worried its too much like home. I save michigan for the wintertime and rent snowmobiles :) only one that didnt wreck last year:punk:

gpz- if you have tools and a garage im stopping by! just make sure there's enough room in the corner so i can throw down my sleeping bag. if there's a ferry close by im taking it. that would be a sweet pic
The U.P. will not be like Indiana whatsoever! If you think it's rural down there coming up here will change your opinion about rural! Population Density is roughly 24 people/ square mile by me! http://www.census.gov/dmd/www/pdf/512popdn.pdf
I live by the second largest city in the U.P. (Sault Ste Marie) and it's population is 17,000, with roughly 38,000 total popualtion in one of the largest counties (Chippewa) in Michigan. Plan your gas stops wisely if you visit da U.P., eh?
Places I've been and would recommend:
Blue Ridge, Parkway, Niagra Falls Canadian side, Daytona Beach, Stone Mountain near Atlanta, GA., French Quarter New Orleans, Yellowstone Park, Going to the Sun road in Glacier National Park, Olympic National Park, anywhere along the west coast highways away from population centers, Black Hills, Pictured Rocks and the Soo Locks in the U.P..
If your in the U.P. you have a place to crash and a fresh Lake Superior whitefish dinner!

PM me here if you're gonna be anywhere near Holland NY (if you hit Niagara Falls you will).
Got beer in the fridge, and dogs for the grill. I'm sure we could find a place for you to crash for the night, too.

As you cruise through your plotted route through Nebraska check out Chimney Rock*, Lake McConaughy*, Car Henge*, Agate Fossil Beds, Fort Robinson, and Toad Stool Park*. The *'s are must see, and the others are depending on your interest in historic forts and fossil beds. You should be able to plan your route to see them all without backtracking. Toad stool park is pretty desolate and access is by gravel road which is well travelled but do not go if it has rained. There is some primitive camping at the park, you will be alone camping there, very quiet.
