New to the forum, vmax, and bikes in general.

Hello everybody. I have been stalking around the forum for a few weeks now. It was finally time for me to get a bike, and I decided to go with the Vmax. This bike is pretty rare here in Utah (Salt Lake area), but I found a guy 5 minutes away who was selling his 2001 Max for $4500. I jumped on that opportunity. The bike has 14,000 miles, and looks great. I have had some experience on other bikes, but I am really just beginning my "bike life." The real trick was to get the wife to agree.
I did a basic tuneup yesterday following the owner's manual instructions. However, the idle is a little rough and I would like someone who really knows what they are doing. I will go in to the dealership in Salt Lake later this week if I can't find someone else. Anyone know a good place here?
I will probably keep the bike stock for the next couple years. Once I graduate I will get the Gen. 2. Any good advice?

welcome to the brotherhood! you're gonna love you new max. except for the frame brace (just a matter of opinion, so don't take it personal), good looking specimen you've got there. look up "shotgun" and "peashooter" to help clean up the idle. also run some seaform or "start your engines" trough a couple tanks of gas. if you manage to fight off the Mod Monkey for a couple years, you'll be my hero.

Welcome to one of the best forums on the web. V-Max carburation is--- well--- interesting. Especially if the bike has been sitting for a month or longer and not properly stored.
Syncronizing the 4 carbs is a must and not hard to do if you have the right tool.

Hey! Welcome to the forum! I also live in the salt lake area and know quite a few vmax owners.. we are actually planning a vmax ride/ bbq for sometime in July hoping to get around 10-15 vmaxs. As far as service goes I would avoid plaza cycle at all cost.

I have had really good experiences with 4 seasons cycle in west valley city but currently get all my work done through my friend Travis. He charges $60 per hour and has experience with the vmax.

My bike is currently out of commission but will hopefully be on the road within the next couple if weeks. We should ride sometime.

The only mod I would recommend is the Morley Muscle Seat, get you a couple inches lower into the bike and more comfort.

Welcome to the forum ! enjoy yer new bike. the vmax has finikey carbs ..easy to maintain tho. i put a lil stabil marine formula in the gas every cple weeks to keep the plugged pilot jet gremlin at bay....but a lot of folks use seafoam as well. stabil has a new ethanol formula im gonna try this summer. sync the carbs every few thousand miles and the max will run smooth as silk.

Awesome looking bike! Welcome to the forum. As stated you'll need to sync the carbs regularly. If you don't already have a sync tool you can pick one up for a little over $100 or so. It's really the only special tool you'll need, everything else is pretty straight ahead. They're are some really great, experienced guys here and they will help out whenever possible.

Sean's seat is the only real mod I have done to mine so far. It made a huge difference in comfort for me.
