My 2 cents on oil changes/types. I have tried several brands of conventional oil in my 1994 and I find the bike performs the longest/best on Valvoline 10w40 conventional motorcycle oil. I change my oil twice a year to keep the shifting at optimal levels. Also, this from a helicopter pilot who hung around his mechanics for 20 years, don't overfill the system. The owner's manual gives very good instructions for oil change procedures and for refilling/adding oil. Oil is only checked when the engine is warm and level. Shut the warm engine off and either have somebody sit on the bike and bring it level or use the centerstand to see the oil fill the sight glass. I keep mine at half full to maximize the life of the seals. Overpressurizing the seals will cause them to leak prematurely. Airframe and powerplant mechanics are extremely knowledgeable and maintain engines worth millions of dollars.
