Doesn't hurt to disconnect the speedo cable, at the speedometer end, and let a few drops of "3 in 1" (or equivilent) oil drop down the length. Keeps operation silent, may save you the cost of buying another cable. I do this once a year.
Cheers, MIles
Throttle cables are also in need of yearly service. this is a handy device to make sure the lube gets into the cable. There are several brands of cable specific lube to choose from: Motion Pro/ PJ1/ Moose Racing.
Hasn't been an issue on my Max yet, but on my Magna the speedometer needle would sometimes get kind of jerky...it bounced around a little. Lubing the speedo cable always took care of it.
What was your last bike with cable-operated brakes? Thought those have been gone since the 70's.
