I think my rear caliper has about had it. It has locked up on me and that's the last straw. Instead of just replacing with OEM I was wondering if there are any specific upgrade models you guys installed on your Maxes.

If anyone can point me in the right direction i'd appreciate it. I did a quick search and didnt see anything.

Thank you.

I believe Sean sells adapters that you could modify to install a busa caliper on the rear. You'd need a larger rotor though.

Custom vmax services sells a caliper bracket that would allow you to mount a R1 front caliper and keep the OEM rotor, they sell one that allows you to you to upgrade to a larger 298mm rotor, and I think they have one that will allow you to use a R1 rear caliper.

Not sure what calipers are a direct bolt on though.

Your caliper could probably be good as new if you take it apart, clean it and install new seals.

I replace mine with a 1999 R1/left front blue dot calliper (bolt-on)

Thank you for the advice. Do you know a good place to shop for seals or repair parts to rebuild the caliper?

It's probably a build up of crap on the pistons and along side of the pistons/seals. Also, if you have overfilled your reservoir this can cause a lockup condition too.

Rarely do they need new seals. Take the calipers apart, clean the bores, polish the pistons, clean the seals (don't worry too much if the outer dust seal isn't perfect), and reassemble. We can do that for you if desired but it's not a hard job.

Thanks, guys. Tomorrow is car/bike day for me so I will definitely take a closer look and get them cleaned up. Hopefully that's all it needs!

I'm curious about what you meant by "locked up" Did this happen while you were riding, or when the bike was at rest? Did the pistons eventually release on their own, after cooling down?
I had the front calipers completely seize on my bike two years ago, while I was own the highway. The cause was poor adjustment of the brake lever.
There is also a procedure for adjustment of the rear brake linkage, at the master cylinder location. I'm wondering if this was not set properly on your bike.
Cheers!
