I'm still wondering if the 5th gear conversion on mine is going to be a plus or minus at the strip?

I didn't used to need 5th at all at the strip with the stock motor, but with the new motor, slightly reduced rev limit, and what I can guess is a lot faster revving to the new redline I may need it now?

I can definitely say its a real PLUS on the highway and am glad we did it;

I doubt this new motor will get to much strip time anyway, too much invested now and am scared to break it, not that it should, it's got way better parts in it than the stock motor.
Prolly run it a couple of times to see wha it'll do and then no more.

You may need to race with a venture diff. That may give the extra mph needed to keep it in 4th.

I believe it was Rick Rash that ran both the OD 5th gear AND the Venture final drive all the time on his 1500 motored Vmax.
The first time riding with a bunch of Vmax's (Icebreaker crazies)who are dropping the hammer from 4th and then when I hit 5th (w/o reving out 4th)it seems like I dropped an anchor.
At least that what if seemed like for my bike being that it's just piped/ jetted. I'm sure with your motor Rusty you'll not get the same effect!

Yeah I think he did a review on that in the vboost. Said he wouldn't recommend it for normal spirited riding.
The 5th gear drop is tremendously noticeable like you said. But I think that if its wound out to 9000 or so in 4th then 5th might hit In an ok spot on the torque curve.
Just cruising around its really pretty noticeable that you end up staying in 4th a lot longer than usual since shifting there like you normally would leaves you almost lugging the motor if your in a "loafing" mood at 50 or so.
4000 rpm at 80 is something I'm really liking a lot tho.

I like my 5th gear a lot too. It make just cruising down the road nice and smooth. I had a nice 50 mile ride home last night, traffic was very light so I could run 70 to 120 most of way home.
It was a nice mixture of turns/ elevation and straightaways, I was really enjoying the combination of the tall gear coupled with Carrozzeria/ radials making the cornering efforless.
I had some great tunes plugged into my ears with my Marks exhaust thundering in the background.:punk:
Here is the road map(Check out where I started from): GOOGLE MAPS

Your probably making as much power as I am on spray and I need it, maybe like Sean said and use a Venture diff...
