Ok, time for confessional...
When I first bought my '86 Max this spring, I immediately ordered a new (stock) reg/rec to attempt to fix my charging problems.
I have since found this and other forums that would have changed what I did, but now I am replacing my stator and battery for good measure and have to confess to (and ask about) what might have been a big mistake...
When I replaced my reg/rec, I found the connection melted/trashed. Taking note that all the wires on the bike side were white, I cut the connector away (to good wire) taking extreme caution to keep them configured corretly, placed a blade connector on each one, and connected the new reg/rec.
Here is my question... If I had accidentally plugged those three white wires (now seperate from a connector plug) in to the reg/rec incorrectly, would I know it? Would the bike run at all? Is there a good way to identify the wires (as they are all white) and where they should plug in to the reg/rec? Could I have blown the new reg/rec? :bang head:
I am planning to run a seperate ground wire from the reg/rec to the battery and would like to fix/improve anything else I need to while I'm in there changing the battery and stator... I have already soldered the daylights out of the crimp... :thumbs up:
I kneel before the electrical gods and ask forgiveness/advice... :worthy:
