Brian , are they velcro closures only ?
No, they zip to above the ankle on the instep side. The velcro goes over the zipper and closes to the top of the boot around the calf. There is another velcro flap on the opposite side of the boot to help customize the fit around the calf. The buckle is a velcro tab and really doesn't do much IMO.

I really like the Icon Field Armor boots. The break-in was kinda hard and they were really stiff at first, but they loosened up A LOT after a couple hours, and they're really comfortable now. I can wear them all day, on and off the bike and not have any discomfort.

They seem really solidly constructed, and there's no way it's coming off your foot. There's laces, a size zip, then three big fold-over buckles. I tied the laces once and haven't touched them in over 2 years now. So far, they've held up great. No broken buckles, no fraying, no loose seams and they've gotten soaked in stoms several times. The buckles really snug it down good, and the zipper makes it easy to take them on and off.

Note: they're not at all waterproof. There's mesh panels in the sides which is great when it's hot(you can actually feel air blowing through the boot), but it lets water in readily as well.

They're a mix of leather, mesh, and hard rubber panels over the heel and toe.

Some people complain that the "think" toe makes dipping under the shifter hard, but on both the Magna and Vmax I just adjusted the shifter up a couple turns....problem solved.

They're not that expensive either, think they run about $120 most places.
