Rubber dampers

Just changed the frame infills for some aftermarket ones and I noticed that the originals have whats called a rubber damper attached to the back ( 43 in pic )
Just wondered what they are for and what might be the consequences of them not being stuck to the back of the aftermarket ones.

I believe they are sound dampeners to help quite the drive in that area.

Thought it was probably something like that. Can't imagine they make that much difference.
