scoops, paint or not

Any opinions on painting my side scoops. I'm going to paint the faux tank, fenders and side panels black with a light diamond dust flake with a lot of clear over it to give it a lot of depth. Had this done before on an old maxim and it looked awesome. I just don't know if i should also paint the scoops the same or leave them or paint them something else. The bike is currently orange, I don't care for the color at all.

I think the contrast would look better than a massive black lump. If you did decide to paint them the same as the bodywork, I think painting the engine a silver metallic would look good, the bodywork would make the engine 'pop' visually.​

Tom Osborne always was entertaining when he came to the Miami Orange Bowl w/the Cornhuskers, except in 1991 when he got shut out by the U-M Hurricanes. His successes came later in the decade.

I have silver metallic powdercoat I did this season and like it quite a bit. I have a spare set of scoops and one needs chroming to match the other. I also have a spare set of complete bodywork. Strangely, I was considering painting the stuff orange. I like orange. I forget who has the tangerine bike, someone from Europe? That came-out nice. Lotsa mods on that one too.

One of the Cornhuskers' 'problems,' if that's what it was, was they were doing a ground running game while Miami used the NFL-style pass offense as their primary weapon, and their defense was good-enough to get their offense back on the field pretty-quickly, which wore-out the defense of opponents.

Sadly, the 'Canes have had a 'down' cycle most-recently, but for a relatively small private school compared to the large public land-grant universities they have a disproportinate number of players who are in, or have been in, the NFL.

I say do what makes you happy paint them if you think you like it & if you dont strip the paint off no big deal. I have done painted & chrome & silver powder & each looked good on diffrent bikes with there them. Its your bike & who cares what any one else thinks as long as you like it.

I had this very conversation with Ridinno shiftin. Point I made is first, there just is not alot of real estate or canvas for paint on our Maxes especially from the side. The black motors take up a big chunk of the canvas so black or dark scoops and airbox cover makes everything heavy and hides the lines of the bike. Of course with any dark color, it is effectively broken up with light colored scoops. Chrome being the penultimate avenue. Polish next and silver (factory like) respectively. Many have split the color of the scoops top and bottom. Sean is currently doing me some Muscle Paint which is a warm color. We knocked around black to contrast the main color but in the end, I chose all one color and can always add the black or contrasting color later if I want. Of course, whoever said it is all falls back to what the owner likes is spot on. Funny thing about color is there are rules that often govern color choice to avoid making questionable choices but it never fails that someone goes against these "rules" and the end result just works even though it flys in the face of conventional thought.

I thought about the chrome powder coat stuff a place around here does. This is probably my last free paint job from my uncle so I want it to count. I believe the p.o. said the paint he used was the new dodge charger orange.
What's the print paint, is that like a wrap?
Geez, now I can't wait for football season to start.

Ok, I think I'm leaning towards all silver scoops. Maybe I'll inlay the "YAMAHA" black. The side panels will be all black, that should make the chrome VMAX emblem really pop. Next up is a set of black supertrapp slip ons.

is the cover made of solid aluminum? I was considering anodizing it. I've got an anodizing setup and can do all kinds of crazy dye jobs.

Sean Morley has the hook up on the SuperTrapp's and at a damned good price too. I highly recommend giving him the chance to get them for you before buying them off the forum. IMHOP

You need one of those "Photo Shop/Paint" computer programs you could set up a pic of the faux tank and scoops and just change color combinations until you get the right combo for your taste.

Having polished or chromed scoops against color really makes them pop.

My bike with chrome scoops came with black "YAMAHA" sticker letters put in, though after a couple years they all started to peel and flake off, so I just removed them all, and it doesn't look too bad without them. Was going to do the inlays in red, but my couple attempts have proven that paint does not like to stick to chrome so I guess the letters are staying blank.

I've done the photoshop thing and made it all black. It looks okay on the computer from across the room, but I'm just a hack on photoshop and can't do it justice.
As soon as I can sweet talk the wife into some new supertrapp slipons I will be giving Sean a call.
Hopefully I get the bike back tomorrow from the local Community College, they are putting on new fork seals, head bearings, rear disc and all new pads. They are also cleaning and repacking/replacing all the other bearings. I only pay for parts. I've had great luck with them in the past on another bike (750 Maxim) and hope my luck holds out.

i don't disagree. but for some reason when it came down to $50 for pc or $200 for chrome the choice was easy, hehe
