Hello Everyone,
I just received my ECU back from Tim and I am not able to enter the Diagnostic mode to reset the codes.
If I press & hold the two buttons and turn on the ignition, I see the Er-4 (Error 4) on the screen and blinking temperature gauge.
I don't have the immobilizer connector under the right scoop, so it's not that.
Did anyone face the same issue?

I wanted to provide an update regarding my experience with Tim and the ECU reflash process. Unfortunately, things have gone from bad to worse.

Before sending the ECU to Tim, it was in perfect working condition. The bike had just been at Miami Cycles the day prior to shipping, and Mike, the shop owner, confirmed it was fully functional. After receiving the ECU back from Tim, the bike won’t start, and I get an ER-4 (ECU malfunction) error with a blinking temperature gauge.

Tim attempted to reflash it twice, and both times, the same issue occurred. Instead of diagnosing the problem or testing the ECU upon receipt, he blamed the failure first on “X-ray machines in USPS” and then accused me of sending him a broken ECU to “swindle” him.

What’s more frustrating is that Tim never provided clear shipping instructions, such as using an anti-static bag. And after the ECU was damaged, he conveniently decided that I didn't disconnect the battery and didn't use an anti-static bag and this was the cause and blamed me for the mistake.

Despite claiming to have “flashed thousands” of these ECUs, Tim’s handling of my situation has been completely unprofessional. Communication was abysmal—he hasn't responded to emails, didn’t answer office phone calls, and provided no transparency throughout the process. When I did finally get a response, he was rude, dismissive, and unwilling to share the costs or take any responsibility for the damage.

In the end, I was forced to buy Tim’s “loaner” ECU for $800 just to have a functional bike again. On top of that, I’m out $550 for the reflash service that didn’t work and shipping costs for three separate shipments. This has left me with a total loss of over $1,400 and extremely frustrating experience overall.

I felt it was important to share my experience here, given Tim’s strong reputation on this forum. While others may have had positive results, I urge anyone considering his services to proceed with caution and be prepared for a lack of accountability if things go wrong.

Man, that truly sucks and would frustrate the crap out of anyone. Having said that, Tim has gurued my ECU twice, both times with spectacular results. First for a factory refinement, and later for a MAB/catless/Delkevic setup.
I'm not dumping on you dude, but I recall the website clearly stated to ship the ECU in a anti-static bag. And I remember it being returned in non-static packaging too.
Does seem like Tim could work with you on the failed flash price since you ended up buying an ECU from him. But I'm no entrepreneur, so what do I know?
However this shakes out, don't let it rob you of the joy of VMax ownership. Hell, everything we do to these bikes is expensive! Hope you can get past this initial hiccup with your ride she gives you miles of smiles!

VmaXXX summed it all up pretty well, I'd say. My Gurued flash has been nothing but rock-solid, too. I also agree that it's a shame that he won't work with you on cost, and also that everything we do to or for this machine is expensive. I hope the sting of the financial impact from this bad experience subsides as quickly as you'll hit warp velocity and as entirely as the ear-to-ear smile on your face will be as you do it!

Why it was in Miami Cycles and did you ride your bike after it had been in there? Did you remove and send the ECU to Tim yourself?

I bought flashed unit from Tim and it has worked great, plug and play. Needed double stack clutch spring kit after that, no problems with that either. After installing bike slips from rear tyre instead of clutch :)
