My 88 has developed a spongy feel to the lever and is not engaging the clutch properly, just like there is air in the line, only thing is there shouldn't be any air in it. No visible leaks but I did crack the bleed nipple and bleed it and it did feel better but overnight it again feels a bit soggy again. I have no problem pulling stuff apart but I don't want to do unnecessarily.
Would the likely culprit be a worn master cylinder piston or slave piston rubbers?
Those who have experienced it may have see as a common issue.

Btw checked all the dumb things like fluid level etc.

Had that once. Replaced the seals and it was fixed.

Some people use to say that could be worn fluid. When did you change your fluid?

Fluids are fresh. I'm surely suspecting the seals and I guess there would be no harm anyway in doing both the MC and slave but I did wonder what was more likely to crap out first.

Leaks at the slave are harder to find. I replaced both, and the front brake mc all at once.Braided lines all around, a lot of doe ray me but glad I did it every time I ride. Then better calipers and on and on. You all know what mean...lol

I would say do the seals then test ride then take it for a decent ride .... say next weekend . :punk:

Well sucked the bullet and ordered MC and slave kits which have to come from Australia.
Have to get this sorted before my epic journey to Taupo meeting with Gunrunner .

I had this on my '99....after installing a slave kit and removing some old fluid and a small amount of water from the bottom of the slave it works great.

I really wonder if it's possible to properly change the clutch fluid without removing the slave and cleaning it. Seems to me that, given it's design, old fluid and water will accumulate at the bottom of the slave and can't be removed through the bleeder screw.

When are you guys hooking up? Gonna need lots of pics....eh? :punk:

LOL that fast? What are they using? NZ air force one? :biglaugh:

Super fast!

Good luck and dont forget to tell us what was the problem.

I kinda wondered if they happened to have some here in Auckland depite telling me they were ex Australia as it seemed too good to be true.

>>Anyway , update... so I struggle to get to work today pumping the clutch before I come to lights etc as it wants to grab and keep going and before heading out to pick up my new seals I finally get chance to look a bit deeper.
The fluid level looks ok thru the glass and I remove the cover for close inspection.
My 88 has custom bars , different angles etc and I had the MC cantered back on a bit of an angle. I decided to crack the bleed nipple and get any air out if there was any present so I could continue my journey to get the new seals.Air came out and the lever felt great. So this had me thinking, as there is no outside visible leaks, air shouldn't be entering the system or could it?
Because of the angle of the MC I started to suspect that on occasion going around corners leaning that operating the level might be swallowing air sometimes if the fluid wasn't covering the holes at that point.
This all started happening after a long trip with lots of twisties.
So after bleeding it and re positioning the mc so it's level and topping it right up, it feels ok for now.

So I had to go and pick up my new seals because they were already paid for which is about 30k round trip, I have had no problems at all.

Conclusion: It would seem I might be a complete Bozo who spent money on seals that were perhaps not needed in the first place:rofl_200:

Well, nothing easy with this bike :D

You might be right but it wont hurt you to replace that seals.

Somethimes you will not find the couse till you replace almost evrything what can be replaced.

Id would call it as "THE V-MAX FENOMENA" LOL :rofl_200:
