He had an external gas tank mounted on his sissy bar, which was interesting to me. I came up behind him at an intersection (okay, okay... I was hoping he'd want to run 'em.... :biglaugh:) and made a conversation. We pulled bikes over to the curb and talked for about 10 mins. Nice guy.

We ended up trading stories about "near-misses" and other stuff. I asked him about his bike and told him I guessed he got well over 40mpg with FI - he said something like 45-50. Then he was saying he was at like 1600cc and so forth, had work done on the engine, cam, etc. He told me his Harley dynoed at over 100hp and had about that much torque also....

Anyway, I thought I would post one of his comments, which stuck with me. He said, "It ain't what you ride, it's what you can afford." I found that to be odd, though not surprising.

I've always believed it "ain't what you ride, it's WHY you ride."

He never asked or said a single word about my bike.

Nonetheless, he was the first Harley dude I encountered in person who was nice enough to talk with me, let alone waive.

Read a great comment once, "Even the Harley riders will usually give a begrudging wave to the mighty V Max, and their thoughts are plain to see....I wonder what it's like to have all that power." :biglaugh:

So I overheard two different quotes but basically the same this week.

At a bar, "Can you believe Jim's bike, he's up to 108hp now!!?"

And then talking to a Motorcycle Police Officer about the new HD cop bikes, "Yeah, they're up to 103hp - it's great. Especially because they weight 700lbs... :clapping::rofl_200:

"It ain't what you ride, it's what you can afford.""

Yeah right! Harley would approve a loan to Little Orphen Annie:whistlin:

For most of them its "what their payment will be for 6-8 years":th_analprobe:

I was out a few weeks ago with some Harley buds. Both on sportys. We all stopped for gas and me and one of my friends swapped bikes for the first time. So, I'm pulling out of the lot on the sporty with the others behind me as a group of harley guys are pulling in. One of them immediately jumps off his bike and starts waving his arms towards my bud on my max and starts talking with him. So I turn around and see whats up. He was asking him some questions about the max and he pointed to me. I went over to chat for a while. The guy was telling me how he's been shopping around for a max for a while and really wanted one. Asked me some basics about it. Told me he would buy it if I really wanted to sell it! Told him I just got it a couple months ago and it only has about 3K on the clock right now and wasn't too interested in getting rid of it but appreciate the offer.

This mostly depends on where you live.
Some areas have more dicks than others.
I have had Harley riders wave to me on Ol Fortune Cookie. At first it caught me off gaurd.

last summer , a harley guy pulled up to me at a light , and said " man i alway's wanted one of those , if i ever get rid of my harley i'm going to get one of those , i wanted one since they first came out " , i said me to & i just got this one a couple of months ago , he said nice , the light turned & he took off . I was shocked !

Yesterday was one of those PERFECT FL fall days...mid 80's, low humidity, lottsa sunshine..so I get on my ride and meet with my oldest son at his office, for a lunch together.

He's on his '08 Nightrider... Very well appointed and nicely 'personalized'...

We're leaving a cafe after eating, and a guy on a Valkerie is just pulling up...looks at our rides, and goes.."whose VMax?" Son is about 5 steps behind me, and I hear an audible 'grunt' come out of him....

Valkerie dude asks lots of questions about the max, and basically ignores Son's HD....other than a passing 'nice ride' comment....

We get back to the office, and he says 'wtf was that?! What is it about those things?'... I told him it was just that 'VMax Mystique' Thang...

I love it!

hahaha that's just brilliant! 23 years of pure muscle history tell a much more exciting tale than many decades of poor performance, braking and handling topped by snotty riders LOL

Some of these comments crack me up. You could replace VMax with Harley and you'd be those same snobs!

Relax fellas we all enjoy the same hobby, why does it matter what brand of horse you saddle up on?

lots of harley riders like the max...its probably the most excepted metric in the harley world...and most respected
