He had an external gas tank mounted on his sissy bar, which was interesting to me. I came up behind him at an intersection (okay, okay... I was hoping he'd want to run 'em.... :biglaugh and made a conversation. We pulled bikes over to the curb and talked for about 10 mins. Nice guy.
We ended up trading stories about "near-misses" and other stuff. I asked him about his bike and told him I guessed he got well over 40mpg with FI - he said something like 45-50. Then he was saying he was at like 1600cc and so forth, had work done on the engine, cam, etc. He told me his Harley dynoed at over 100hp and had about that much torque also....
Anyway, I thought I would post one of his comments, which stuck with me. He said, "It ain't what you ride, it's what you can afford." I found that to be odd, though not surprising.
I've always believed it "ain't what you ride, it's WHY you ride."
He never asked or said a single word about my bike.
Nonetheless, he was the first Harley dude I encountered in person who was nice enough to talk with me, let alone waive.
