This Harbor Freight puller work for starter clutch??

I was thinking of buying this ($15) and then buying some better grade 8 8x1.25 bolts and possibly using some extra metal plates/heavy washers to stiffen things up to avoid bolt flex. Comes with grade 5 cheapie hardware. But the other parts seem worth $15.

If used properly, it should work. Tools like that I tend to trust Snap-On or Mac more than others. +1 to Upgrading the bolts. The mistake many make is to crank away on the center bolt until the thing breaks and pieces go across the room. Tighten it up then whack the center bolt with a heavy hammer. Retighten and whack it again. The hammer blows are what should move the flywheel. I use a, hard to find, lead hammer not to bugger the head of the bolt. Sometimes I'll see a lead hammer at a yard sale, they are easy to make too. When you want to hit something hard and not fk it up the soft lead hammer if your friend.

Any English 1950's/1960's car aficionados should have a brass or lead sledge hammer in their kit, for the knock-off hubs and the 'winged' nuts holding their splined wire wheels in-place.

Buy doubles of the upgraded bolts, for the time after-that.

What length uograded bolts should I get? Haven't even taken cover off yet... Waiting on parts.

Wanted to see if anyone tried and had bad luck. I got to handle a HF one and it is flimsy but had been used a lot. I ordered a gearwrench unit and good 12.9 blots via Amazon cheap. Got 10 bolts 70mm long and only $30 for everything shipped.

+1 On the bolts upgrade but the key is in the impacts ability.
I use the current m18 1/2" Milwaukee.
One short, powerful burst and if you blink you missed it, flywheel off.

Got my Gear Wrench puller... Seems sturdier than the Harbor Freight unit. Waiting on extra 12.9 bolts and one more gasket to finish the job.
