I started the week at The VMOA Central Florida Tech Day With CaptainKyle and a pretty good group. Thanks to a number of people and about 7 hours
of effort. we finally solved the misterious gear whine. Loose nut, on the pinion gear. We all learned from that. We had the bike torn down and had given up
when Sean Morley called back and told us what to check.:th_hit: naughtyG had a spare Diff that he swapped out with me saving the day.

We adjusted my neck bearings after all of that. Over the next day I noticed that the bike was wandering while I was going straight. With advise, I
loosened the adjustment 1/16 of a turn on the adjustment nuts and all seems well.

I've been plagued over the past 2 years with Ethinol in the gas and the boatload of crap it freed up in my carbs. A shorted R-R among other things.
The bike seems to be running very well right now. However, I plan on flushing and changing anti freeze next week. Who knows what that'll stir up.
I'm deliberately making that work wait until after the holiday because I don't want anything to FU for the ride Monday with CaptainKyle , NaughtyG
and whoever else shows up. I'm going. I really need a break from life.

I spent quite a bit of the day reading every post of any interest on the VMOA Site. I'm determined that I have to know everything that can possibly
go wrong with a Max. I haven't even made a dent in reading the posts on this site. It seems to be a monumental task. Guess I'll have to rely on the
rest of you good people for help at various times. My brain can't hold everything I'm supposed to remember as it is. Frigging Old Age Sucks.
First the body parts quit working, then the brain goes........:404:

Thanx,
Dave

Hang in there you have good people helping you. If you think you had it bad you should try being me..........lol

In 2 years I have put on about 300 miles and spent a lot of money but I am not complaining because there are a lot of people willing to help. Sean has helped me a lot. My bike hasn't been down all this time it has just been bad timing.

I don't get down because I know this group of guys will always be here to help. I mentioned I spent a lot of money but that was my choice, many tried to get me to do things myself to save money but I rather pay and have it done right.

I'm glad you got your bike running and I'm sure with time your bike will be fixed and running like a beast.

I was so depressed about my bike I had it for sale the first week of may, I set the price so high that it would have taken the right person to buy my bike, it is worth every penny I was asking but most want a bike they can get a great deal on and work on it to fix it up.

I set that price without knowing it that I didn't want to sell it and after it didn't sell I decided to keep it, I'm glad I did.

Don't feel alone ! and don't give up :eusa_dance:

Thanx Ron,

I was hoping you lived a little closer.:biglaugh: My Brother in Law lives up your way.

The Max is just one of many things mechanical in my life that give me a little grief here and there. Im thankful there are so many good people around. If I didn't have so many vehicles. I'd probably be happier. Or, atleast have more time. That might be a bad thing though.

I'm a little down because the main purpose of my life for the past couple years has slowed to a crawl. I do testing and writing (Reviews) about AR-15 equipment for manufacturers, primarily 22 conversions and dedicated 22 rifles and uppers. I felt useful because I answered hundreds of questions every week. Now that the Obama scare is over and the market has slowed because everyone has bought everything in sight, few are still looking or asking.

So now I'm redirecting all thet energy toward my VMax. It seems like a worth while thing to do. Maybe someday, I'll know enough to help someone with their VMax too. Long way to go still.

Thanx for the good thoughts,
I'm happy you didn't sell your Max,
then you'd have no need to be here.

Great info Dave. I was considering a dedicated 22 upper for practice to save on ammo cost. Other than Compas Lake I was unaware of anyone that produced them at present due to the demands being put on all the companies for the standard caliber stuff. I had considered a Ciner conversion but I was told to get a dedicated upper by several of the High Masters who used them. Since you are the guy who knows I would love your advice.

BTW, don't get discouraged! The Vmax will provide plenty of time consuming delight and hopefully most of it will be riding!

Rockatansky: Compass Lake has fine equipment. I haven't had the opportunity to test for them though. I'll give you a link to most of my testing. Testing for Ciener, Spike's Tactical, Olympic, CMMG, Tactical Solutions, Black Dog Machine, Clint Beyer Barrels, Target Master and AR-15 Conversions.

The advise you received was good. Conversions are great for plinking at 25 or 50 yards. Their inexpensive to buy and shoot but they leave you wanting more accuracy. Great thing with a lot of these is that the bolt you get with the conversion can be modified with a dedicated collar and used with a dedicated upper. Many people go that way, buying a conversion to see how they like shooting 22's in the AR Platform. Then build their own custom dedicated upper or have it made at to their specs by the manufacturer.

To get the best accuracy to start with, Spike's Tactical has a Lothar Walther Barreled M4 Upper or an 18" Lothar Walther Stainless Steel Bull Barreled Upper. Accurate and extremely accurate. Clint Beyer Barrels in 16-18" length are presumed to be extremely accurate. I've only fired an 8" and it did very well. Tactical Solutions M4 is nice and some distributers discount the price, However it is slightly less accurate than the others. but we're talking fractions of an inch at 25 and 50 yards.

Skip through this link and you'll gain a lot of knowledge. Then ask me the questions you still have either here or in an IM....
