Vmax flat track? Has it ever been done before?

YES! It has. I did it last Feb 14th. I raced at the Return to Del Mar with IV league flat track. I raced in the Run what you brung and Hooligans classes. It's not easy. I got last in runwhatyoubrung, and 5th in the Hooligan (street Harleys). Most of the Harleys were tracked out Sportsters. I went to the first event Jan 17 to race but the bike got scared and threw a fit. I got 4 laps of practice in. Stator was bad. ( This was also the second time I had riden the bike in almost two yrs. and in the down time I installed the stage 7 onto this bike from my old one I wrecked 5 yrs ago. And! I got Marks exhaust installed to go with the carbs.) After fixing the stator it felt like the tires (Metzler 880) were bad. The rear was stepping out more then I remembered. So I had no problem grooving them for the races, then to get replaced.

Super fun. My 8 yr old son raced his 50 in the youth class as well. So cool, racing with your son. It doesn't get any better.

So the next race is this weekend at Del Mar, the 7th & 8th. It's a really fun event, if any of you are in the SoCal area you should come. You can race too if your not chicken. It would be cool to have another Vmax, or whatever you've got. Runwhatyoubrung. My brother n law raced his XS 750 rigid chopper.

Are you F'n nuts, or what! No way in Hades I'd ever attempt such a wonderous feat. Congrats on living through that. That would have been cool to watch in person.

I reposted this in the pit stop room. I figured it was more appropriate there. It has been a while since I've been on here. I also added some links one to a magazine article and another for the race website.

That's cool as hell. Good luck with other event's. I would need a little more grip if i did it.

Metzeler 880's recut to get that ghost feeling of traction.

Its been along time for me and i did it on the gravel back roads with a dirt bike. Not so long ago i did it on quads and it's easier but if you wreck i would rather be on a bike. I never raced that way on a track but i do know what it's like to hang a turn next to another bike or quad and get around them. I also know what it's like to have my back tire and rim run over when i went down. Lucky i only went down one time and never got hit myself. I also had a buddy lock tire's with me on a quad going into a turn on a back snow packed road lucky for me he got better traction and his tire went up and over my tire and flipped him.

I flat track raced a a Triumph TR250 and a 500 those bikes were a little heavy I couldnt imagine trying to flat track a VMAX

Hahaha, thanks guys.
It all started when I used to go to the Del Mar Mile grand national's with my dad on his Vmax. I remember asking it you could run a Vmax in those races. Of course he said, "na to heavy. That's not the bike for it." And I always wondered and wanted to try it. Mind you, I've never ridin flat track. Dirt bikes and such ya, but not flat track. So when I herd about the Return to Del Mar event and they had Runwhatyoubrung and Hooligans classes I was all about it. Super fun. I'm making a Hit shoe (steel shoe) for this weekend.
And now that it's officially a race bike I'm leaving the number plate side covers the way they are.
