Today:
To complement my (recently installed):
- Dynojet Stage 7 carbs
- UFO Dragstar 4/1
Losing the coils and going to a 12-cell Ballistic battery, and losing the stock exhaust must have lost me lbs!
Let's see...:ummm:
Jon Cornell says the Dragstar is 17 lbs. & using my bathroom scale my stock exhaust for the megaphones & downpipes, not including the rear pipe 'vanity covers' is 46 lbs. That's a 29 lb. difference!
No centerstand/spring, 5 lbs. savings.
Stock coils & wires, say, 4 lbs. COP's=1 lb. for a 3 lb. savings.
Ballistic battery=2.5 lb., stock battery, minimum 7.5 lb, savings=5lb.
Total weight savings = 42 lb. That's a 7% weight reduction! (600 lb to begin with according to a factory manual, w/a nearly-full tank) Gas is ~ 6 lb/gallon, so 4 gallons = 24 lb. making an empty gas tank VMax weighs 580 lb. & 604 lb topped-off. I didn't count losing the stock airbox either.
I'd say, losing 7% of your starting line weight should be good for a couple tenths. In cars, a rule of thumb is 1/10 second for each 100 lb weight loss, and that's for a 3000+ lb vehicle, where 7% = 210 lb., so by extrapolation, the bike weight loss should be good for 2/10 at the strip, to say nothing of the increased power from the tuned components.
I am not really a drag racer, but I feel better having a rev-limiter on my bike and an adjustable ignition curve, courtesy of the Dyna 3000 dip-switches.
This is all on-top of a complete 3-angle valve job, which included taking a few thousandths off the head surfaces. The engine was done by Under Pressure in Dania Beach FL 33314. I removed it & re-installed it.
Those are all pics of my engine, bike, and parts, skinned, bloody knuckles not-included. I did the removal and replacement of the engine myself, no assist. Powdercoating by Fusion Powdercoating, Dania Beach FL.
My goal was to fix all the $$$ issues I've had w/my bike since resurrecting it this past year after a long nap. I wanted to get it running well so I could justify the disassembly to the bare frame and powdercoating it, and then reassembly. I think that time may be near, when I return from Daytona (assuming I
get to Daytona). I've only taken it for a couple of rides, <50 miles, but things seem tight, as-in, no leaks, and I still have a bunch-more stuff for it, a complete front end kit for the '93+ front end. I already went w/FZR1000 front calipers, and I have two other pairs, all Yamahas, I could add to increase the performance when the anchors are required, but honestly, for now, the FZR1000 Sumitomo 4-pots are working very well. I also switched to radials this year, and replaced the steering head bearings with a set from All-Balls.
One thing's for sure, I am
not gonna be dynoing my bike anytime soon!:damn angry:

Now to enjoy my ride, and embarass some Harley's who think their Kuryaken air cleaner, straight pipes and a Power Commander make them "Street kings." Maybe in
money spent for minimal gains!:rofl_200:
