Went out to start the bike and was greeted with extremely slow turning over. Crap. Thankfully, it bump-started easily and has since started and run fine. Think I may have inadvertently put it into "park" 4 days ago.

Rode in the dark to a family shindig and then back in a little fog. Damn you, autumn (fall).

Discovered that the battery is probably toast. No juice again this morning, despite starting ok yesterday evening after bump starting in the morning. Bump started again, rode for about 40 minutes. Flat again after about 2 hours. Battery just not holding charge or something worse?

Go directly to the 'How-To' for charging trouble-shooting,

and ensure proper operation of your system. Then read for hours about batteries (Pb-acid, AGM, lithium-ion, dilithium-crystal) and pick one friendly to your pocketbook, and install it. Assuming your charging function is within-specs, that should do it, and allow you to enjoy what's left of the riding season for your latitude.

Went on a short 50 ride the stopped at Home Depot where a guy drooled all over my Vmax. He said he bought a V-Rod a couple of years ago but always wanted a Vmax. :)
 
I had a big meeting at work for Taskstream software which we use to track all kinds of things in an academic setting. We have a SACS (Southern Association of Colleges and Schools) re-accreditation site visit soon, and the higher admin. is making us toe the line on quantifying student and professor work, that's the Taskstream use. Re-accreditation is a huge deal, essentially, without it, the college shuts-down. We are a branch of the FL college and university system, so that's not going-to happen, but you could be put on probation. If that happened a lot of people would probably be fired.

So I hop into my Camry, dead battery! Grab the briefcase, and take the GMC. My boss was happy I did my stuff before today's deadline, I was-done last Fri. With the software workshop meeting concluded, I checked on two paramedic classes underway, and then went to the dentist. Done w/the dentist, went home & the battery had 12.4 v but it was dropping after having been on a charger & then removed. Load it into the GMC & headed to a Miami FL-area Sears Auto Center for a Die-Hard. $119 later, I have a new Die-Hard Gold, 3 year full-exchange 2 more years pro-rated. And while I was pulling-into the auto service area, I saw this (pic). Rough, but probably getting someone to work.




Waiting for the battery load test to cycle, I went to the tool dept. & got several things.
  • universal 3/8" sq. drive oil filter wrench. I have several strap ones but thought this was a good price, and lifetime Craftsman warranty (Sears is closer than HFT). $12
  • a pair of 5000-lb. test screw chain links. I use these for strapping my bikes in the trailer or truck bed to hard-points on either. Plenty of capacity! $4
  • an intermediate 3-drawer Craftsman tool chest, ball-bearing. Reg. $120, on-sale $44. I already filled it w/misc electrical bulbs & fuses, my Motion Pro carb synch manifold, & other stuff
  • a two-shelf roll-cart, also Craftsman, 400 lbs capacity. I wanted one of these for engine work. I'm gonna make a thick plywood insert for both shelves, and save my back while working on engines. I've got a couple for parts, one-day I'm gonna build one from the two. It was $25, close-out.
So, some new organizational capacity for my tools, and a great heavy-duty workbench/roll-cart. And, a look at a Fazer that has seen better days, but is still providing transportation.
No VBoosting today, though!:confused2:

Been riding all day in the smokey mountains, tail of the dragon tomorrow. Tried to put on a new set of mirrors Sean sent me but my right mirror will not budge on the removal process. Going to have to wait until I get back home and hit it with some penetrating oil.

Really??? Its reverse threaded on the one side? Its going to be a bitch to get off now since I really cranked it on I guess. Please confirm this is a true statement not just yanking my chain. Makes me feel like a dumbass now lol.

Today I removed Cobra Slip-ons from my '99 and installed the Stainless Steel SuperTrapps. It looks and sounds 1000 percent better!

Tomorrow I get a new tire on my 18" rear rim and then I can ride again. (Been down since 9/8 when I tried to get a 200 rear to fit in my stock swingarm.)

I still need to flush the clutch, replace fork seals, and install an air horn and possibly HID headlight.
 
Reverse-thread nuts often have a groove on their circumference or a bar, or several raised bars, to I. D. them as-such. Go look at one side of your bicycle crankset and there will be something like that if it has reverse-threads.

Don't feel bad as you aren't the only-one fooled.
