Ok sitting here at work on my 22nd hour I am sick of my office and the PC.
I worked 23 hours Thursday into Friday and now I am going nuts. Very boring I worked hmm 7 mins so far in this shift.

Which brings me to the question..... What is it you do for a living?


I am an Currencey Automation Engineer at a Federal Bank.

I keep the mechanical, electronics, pnuematics and network of a currencey processing machine up in production. This machine can process 33 bank notes a second and avg about 1,000,000 bank notes in a 11 hour shift.
Runs an avg 99.4% of the time. I perform a monthly 8 hour PM on the system.

Yea laugh a little if you want. I used to make fun of these guys all the time when I was doing the mechanicing. It stands for a few things but is actually Production Operation Specialists. Basically I support the mechanics now and fix the paperwork, figure out why stuff doesn't fit, study the blueprints, desipher the assembly standards, order/upgrade the tooling, figure out ways to be more productive, ect...

I was working a shit load of overtime before that on the mechanic side but now no overtime! I don't miss it much either since the shop at home has been keeping me busy.

I work for a Native American Community I.T Dept. as a computer tech. I started this job knowing nothing about computers and sometimes I think I know even less than when I started! We handle the casino, health center, police dept, recreation dept, school, tribal offices, accountin, HR, compliance, maintenace, wireless, gas station, hotel, and all the associated offices with all data and voice communication. Including managing all the company's cell phones. We do it all with 8 people.
I have been busier than a beaver with the slot system upgrade were in the process of installing. I have been troubleshooting switches that we are installing on the floor of our 2 casinos, learning how to terminate fiber/ run it, and running cat6 cable to all of the slot machines.

It's a secret.

I could tell you, but......well, ..........then I'd have to terminate ALL of you. While that is a DO'able option, I wouldn't want to do all that nasty paperwork (in triplicate) afterwards. Buracratic red tape can suck sometimes.

Service Tech for Atlas Copco Compressors. I'm outta the shop 80% of the time in the comp'ny van away from the boss man, wrenchin' on a compressor. At the end of the day, I drive the van home. Company pays for gas. Got a laptop for programming controllers, with wireless interwebs. Best of all is that I get to see some cool shit. Hell, just last week I went to a nuclear power plant, semiconductor mfg., plastic extrusion plant, water treatment plant, etc.. Here's a few pictures....

Never a dull moment in transport, that's for sure.

I do almost zero zero construction except for oversight of new equipment installation by outside contractors, we inspect, test, and maintain all of our plant electrical Distribution from our 138,000 volt substation down to the 480 volt mains and ties in our unit subs. We have unit electricians that handle all the stuff downstream from there.

Mostly we test relays, breakers, oil circuit breakers, switchgear and transformers.

Been doing it for about 20 years now, 17 at this plant......LyondellBasell.....

Fleet Manager for a water utility. Our district has a service area of about 275 square miles with more than 3000 miles of distribution and transmission main in the ground. We currenty have daily production capacity of 180 million gallons until our second treatment plant comes on line later this year when our production capacity will exceed 200 million. Supporting all of this are just over 300 fleet units ranging from sedans to heavy trackhoes. I oversee purchasing and disposal, maintenance, fuel systems, and budgeting. As a gear-head, this is a great way for me do something I like, earn a good living, and justify my student loan payments.:clapping:

I audit the representatives that clear their securities business through us for compliance to state and federal rules and regulations. I have two other auditors reporting to me (I am supposed to have 3 so I can get everything done on time). I also work as a Registered Investment Advisor through the same firm.

Wow very diverse!

I would have to say i probably have the most unique job out of the bunch. I work for a major contractor and travel the country doing too many different things to even list. I worked my way from the VERY bottom as a weedeater boy to the best job you can get before being a manager which is a highrail weed spray technician. I drive a 3000 gallon tanker around the country and put it on the railroad tracks and spray herbicide to control vegetation on railroad right of ways. Ive set up toughbook laptops with gps in every truck so now we track everything we spray and our customers can view it on our website. It may sound simple but believe me, its a headache! Ive had the oppurtunity to see pretty much every state but alaska and hawaii from the BACKYARD. I started working for this company 3 years ago with a really good work ethic and proved myself beyond a doubt, in hopes that someday this bullshit would pay off and i can be sitting in one of your gravy positions! Every day is an adventure with me, new place, new people, new everything, and i never know whats going on........

Oh and im only 22 years old, so i guess i am better off than a lot of kids my age. Someday i might actually make some money!
