where do you get clear heat shrink tubing that has a cap on it?

nah harlan is about 1"

i've been searching for 1" clear caps.

I have the Raptor light. In really bad rain when it manages to get kind of wet even behind the flyscreen, sometimes it will flash it's startup procedure for no reason, then stop working. When it dries out it's fine again. However, when it's raining, I'm not revving it up to near redline anyway so kind of a moot point. Could probably try the heat shrink trick to cover the little dials on the side, but haven't had any issues with it.

I like how the LEDs spin around and flash when you turn the key on(apparently it's actually a code for what RPM it's set at, but looks cool). Mine is chrome body with red LEDs. The p/o found rubbery plastic caps for it, said they were guards for hydraulic fittings originally. I have the clear one on mine(fits perfect), I also have a red one and a green one somewhere.

If anybody wants them they're yours(assuming I can find them).

Simple,

  1. Go to your favorite deli, get a nice salad to go.
  2. Munch the salad
  3. Take the clear plastic lid from the salad container
  4. Cut a circle to fit the Harlan
  5. With a tooth pick and epoxy, or a hot glue gun with a fine tip, glue the clear disk to the shift light.
It worked for me, after several washings and many rides in the rain. I'll take a picture this weekend for you if you like. Plus you get to munch some yummy rabbit food :biglaugh:

How did you guys mount this thing along side the speedo?? You didn't actually drill a hole in the side of the housing??

I've been checking the lights out on a website called Speed Hut, They look sort of like a Raptor but there is a digital read out on the side and no pin switches to deal with. The Ebay ad say's lifetime warranty. The company calls the lights SST's. Hard to judge how bright they are and they have a wire to hook up that will dim the Led's at night, they may be junk I don't know. I'm tempted to get one and try it, "I could put it in my S10 if it isn't right for the Max".

My raptor(which I believe came from Python), came with a black plastic clip that has that outdoor mounting adhesive on the curved side. Peel 'n stick to the right side of the speedo.

hmm good idea. i suck at the 'maticulous' work so the big piece of plastic would give me plenty of chances to not fuck up cutting a good circle

i had e a spare speedo mike that was peeling the chrome off. some sandpaper and i got it down to bare plastic and rattle canned it black and put a hole in it.

When I first picked up my S/L I used velcro to test out different positions and found that for me the position next to the speedometer was best.
I then had Tom @ Cycle One-off make a custom bracket for it. He already makes a custom (actually several) brackets for the Raptor that he sells but they are not cheap, I paid around $75 for my bracket which mount to the speedometer mounting point. I had to do a little file work to get it to line up with the speedometer but it wasn't too difficult. I think Tom has made a few more of these brackets since and it is called the "top mount bracket". I'm sure he could make one up or even something custom as well.

Well I pulled the trigger last night and ordered the Harlon. Guess we'll see how good it turns out to be. Thanks for all the great input on the subject.

I think you'll be happy with it. I've had the raptor and now running the Harlan. no problems with either one of them.

So this being my first shift light ever.......next question....

What do you guys set it to? Redline?? or 500 before?? or??

I use 8800. When I'm gunning it if I see the light its actually shifting at like 9300. There is a slight delay.

I had mine set at 8800 for a-wHile but now have it set at 9200. It's what you feel safe at, it's there to let you know when to shift when your hot rodding it. With the tach on the Vmax in the most inconvenient location possible I rely on my shift light only when I'm really twisting the grip, otherwise I just go by exhaust tone.

My HP is falling off by 9,000 RPM, as slow as my reactions are any more, I'd need to set mine up for about 8,000 RPM...:ummm: Being Old Sucks..
