Hello Vmaxers,
I started my 1996 Vmax 1200 yesterday and heard a rattling
noise from inside the oil pan area.
Never heard this before on my bike.
I drive it regularly.
I attached a short video with this noise. With reffing the sound changes with it.
Now I'm very worried about it.
Are there some people here that can tell me what it could be? Or had the same issue and how to deal with this.
Thanks for your reply in advance.
Greeting Stephan

You might drop the sump pan and see what's rattling around in there.

Maybe something in the clutch, like a loosening clutch basket nut? Or a diaphragm spring retaining bolt?

It does sound like a loosened fastener allowing a bit of interference with the reciprocating bits.

Try using a mechanic's stethoscope to I.D. where the sound appears to be the loudest. Top of the engine, somewhere in the middle, or something at the bottom. And from front to back of the engine.

$8 just might save you an expensive re-build or a replacement engine. Get some gaskets for when you open the engine once you've decided where the sound is the loudest.
