Exactly how do you remove a shim from the needles... and what does it do.

Shims are placed between the circlip and neoprene spacer of the needle, picking the needle up in the main jet.
It richens up the mid-range.

Stock carbs do not have shims.

No, I have them shimmed up .018" It seems to be just about right.

I get almost exactly 90 miles per tank. When the light comes on you should of stopped before then walking sucks.

If you are getting 90 to the tank on your 2005 you've either got a supercharged 1500 or the tune is way off. My 2005 gets 120 to the redlight so about 150 with reserve (you are switching the reserve over when the light comes on aren't you).
