    back tire washer swap

I'm mounting my new 170/80/15 rear tire on Tuesday and was looking at fire-medics write up on the washer swap that I keep hearing about. Hopefully, my Commander II won't need it but is it better to just go ahead and do it or wait and see if it's needed? It seems that putting the washer inside...

rear wheel/axle washer swap-fit wider tires

I dunno why there isn't a rear wheel washer swap 'how-to' in this section, maybe it is and it's under another title, but I searched all the pages and didn't find it by title. Anyway, here is an excerpt from the "wheels & tires" section, with some added content before the article about my...

Oops I left out the special washer!?

Well, I had my left side engine covers off to fix an oil leak at the pick-up wires joint. The might as wells got me and I decided to prep and re-paint the covers while they were off. Went for a 25 mile high speed test run today, and after looking in the hole under the clutch bleed boot during...

    Special Washer Under Stator Cover

I am finishing installation of a new ES stator. I went to put the outer fancy cover on and can't decide what the orientation of the "special washer" that goes over the end of the crank should be. It doesn't appear to matter but I also know what happens when I assume. The manual and parts catalog...

    I need a washer....

okay so on my other bike the grip is of a softer kind and its not the widest grip. so the outside of my palm will slowly stretch the grip into the bar end causing it to bind slightly. annoying. I'm thinking if I can put a washer in between the grip and the bar end, the metal or even PTFE...

Fuel sender o-ring and drain bolt washer

I found a fuel leak, and after cleaning things up tracked it down to the fuel level sensor. Interestingly, it's something the Haynes manual includes checking for every 4000 miles. Tried tweaking the screws tighter, which slowed the leak a little (already very slow) but a little paranoid about...

What is the importance of this washer on the rear axle?

I am referring to the washer that is moved for the "washer swap". The one that sits between the caliper bracket and the swingarm. I'm mocking up some parts and looking at the rear axle assembly and asking myself what would it hurt if this washer was eliminated? Since the shouldered head of...

    Crush Washer

I have been changing my crush washer when I change the oil on Max and it just dawned on me as I was doing it tonight,, on the crush washer does the rounded or flat side face up when threading the drain bolt into the engine. Maybe a stupid question but it hit me out of the blue this...

    Steering bearing/furbur/lock washer question

The bloke who owned my 85 before me told me he had looked at the furbur fix info online, and decided that the rubber washer didn't do anything, so he threw it away. I had a bike shop look at the steering bearings, grease them up and adjust them. They told me I would need new bearings soon. I...

Copper crush washer alternate source for brakes

I just bought a pack of 25, 10mm copper crush washers from McMaster Carr. Cost was $7.61 + $4.39 shipping, total of $12.00. McMaster P/N is 97725A200 for 25. If you are going to do brake work and remove the lines, these should be replaced. The items I received looked identical to what is...
