Hey guys I'm thinking about selling my 85 I'm in the Phoenix Chandler area it's all original no mods at all, it ran great a few months ago but it's developed a backfire from sitting, asking price is $6,000 I'm pretty firm on the price I'll just let it sit there if you're interested contact me here or my email thanks it has 5200 original miles [email protected]

A very-clean example! The side panels have been replaced, the '85 had the stamped-in VMax logo, instead of the glued-on emblems.

I know they've never been replaced because my brother was the original owner of this bike

When I get home I can take a picture of the backside of the panels the stamped v max is there

I probably have pictures of this bike in 85 when my brother bought it somewhere, and it clearly shows those side panels

I know what you're saying though maybe the dealer we bought it from did this for some reason

Hey, it's no big deal, they're still around as used parts if the new owner wanted to get them. Maybe your brother put the 1985's into a box somewhere, and installed a later set to prevent the theft of a hard-to-come-by pair of side covers. Maybe your brother installed the separate VMax emblems onto the '85's covers, because he liked the look better. A few allen screws removed and you will know.

I have a pair I picked up for a reasonable price, years ago. I've also seen them listed for $500 a pair in the Mid-Atlantic states, in the past.

I'll take one off and show you the back of it it has the stamped v lettering on them

Like I said I can probably come up with a picture in 85 with these on it as the original I guess it's really not a big deal but I'm just saying

I didn't know the 85 side panels go for that much money, this bike was stored inside of a house as a matter of fact right in the family room from 1989 till about 2007 it was never touched all those years, like I said I didn't know the side panels were that desired thanks for the info

Yeah I wouldn't pay $500 for them, but yeah it's not a big deal thanks just thinking about selling the bike I don't use it much

I’ve got an ‘06 been told the OE flamed tank cover is worth a lot….problem is you have to find someone to pay….asking isn’t selling.

good luck to you

You are correct, still have my 85 that I bought new, nothing glued on the side panels it’s stamped.
