I posted last weekend about a local VMAX on eBay, I let it pass.

I'm now looking at several, I was really interested in a 90 Yellow model, just the looks, mileage, etc. Then reading up the 95 or newer has some upgrades, Fork tubes, brakes, Then 2003+ has other reliablity updates. However, I don't see a 2003+ in the budget.

Here are the ones I'm looking at now, if anyone knows about them, please chime in. Perhaps it's someone on the list or you live near one. They are all 2+ hours away. I plan/hope to go buy one Friday as I have the day off. So, if someone can do a pre-check if it's local, that would be great.

I would also like to get one with a back rest/sissy bar for the passenger. Yes, I know they can be added on later.

90 Nashville, TN - Yellow, 17k - Appearance wise, this is my favorite. I talked to the guy Sunday night. He bought it in 92 with 1800 miles, drove down the road and the engine blew, he has owned it since.

98 Knoxville, TN - 17k

91 Lexington, KY - the one people on the list "Know" the guy
Mileage seems kind of high, it doesn't call to me like the Yellow one, and doesn't have the upgrades of a 95+

Any thoughts, comments?

I'd go for the 98. Has a little clearcoat corrosion on some of the aluminum but otherwise looks good. Is stock which is the best way to buy. Never know how well mods are done by PO. Has most of the updates including screw on oil filter. Before 96 Maxes have the cartridge oil filter. Also not much higher than the rest. It would definitely be my choice pending inspection.

All the others have been repainted. The 98 is original color. That is not generally a problem but indicates more changes from stock. May have been wrecked, etc.

ive tried calling the guy about the 95 here and cant get him. the 91 in lexington is sold....to me :) i too liked the yellow one, but he woulsnt budge on price.

keep us updated

The 95 says it has synthetic oil. You will want to change that probably a couple times to get the synthetic oil out and get refusal oil in. From what I understand the synthetic oil will cause the clutch to slip.

I don't know how far you are willing to go for a deal, but I'd be willing to drop the price on my bike in order to get it sold. Let me know if you are interested. It is an 04 and I've upgraded to progressive springs in the front forks. Other than that, the bike is stock. It also has the factory backrest.

It is listed in the for sale section - http://vmaxforum.net/showthread.php?t=28481

Using motorcycle-specific oil which is synthetic is OK. There is a lot of oil info on the forum threads here.

Here is some of the best, not-cheap.

Well as far as I'm concerned, the '98 is the choice. Most important, Its STOCK. No one has messed with it so you know what your starting with. You can ride it as is for years or start personalizing to your tastes. It's an "after '93" bike so it has the updates and the bigger forks.

Second choice would be the '95 as it has been put back together by Sean. (and again a '93 or later)

I would stay away from the first one as I can't see any reason to go to a to a level 7 mod on a stock motor with stock exhaust. IMHO you with get much better drivability and ease of tuning when your V Max has an air box.

Which ever one you buy... It will be WONDERFUL!

I like the 95 for $3500. Money talks. When I bought my bike I turned around and walked 3 times. I even left and came back. Stick the cash out once your at a comfortable price.

There was a fella that emailed me here in knoxville. He has a 98, if you want info send me a PM and Ill send you his email address.
