Hi all:

I just bought a set of 1998 Yamaha R1 front forks and am working on installing them onto my '89 VMax. (The triple tree I had on my old set of USD forks works fine, btw.)

Here's my problem: Sadly, the R1 forks do not have the speedometer sensor lock on the fork lower like the VMax stock forks have (the "speedometer sensor" I mention is what Yamaha calls the "Gear Unit Assembly", part # 1FK-25190-02-00.

So, my questions are:

1) Has anyone here ever addressed this problem?

2) Is there a way I can make a brace/lock to hold that sensor in place?

3) What are the risks in just using the speed sensor without a brace/lock?

Thanks for any help you might have!

Running without the notch/lock for the sensor is just fine in most cases and has been done that way for a long time. When you tighten up the axle it will pinch that in position.

They were 1994 Yamaha YZF750R forks, rebuilt for Max weight.

I had the trees custom-made by Cycle One-Off about 7-8 years ago. I guess he doesn't make them any more, though.
