i got a set of ebc HH brake pads last week and decided to install today,

i took off one of the calipers and removed the pads.

stock pads are HH also?? they look just like the ebc pads except 4 having a slice in the middle.

i find it hard 2 believe that the ebc will make any inprovement.....so i didnt put them in.:ummm: am i missing something here....do all maxes come stock with HH pads??:confused2: i was under the impressin that u fokls were reccomending the ebc pads because they were a higher friction pad.

HH is the highest friction value i think:ummm:
 
I think more than one company uses the "HH" designation for their pads. It may be a generic term. I have seen "HH" pads on eBay that were not EBC.

Yep. I believe you are correct about HH being the highest friction rating. (unless there are specialised race pads).

You run an '07 V-max and I would expect it have HH rated pads fitted as standard.

Remember, brake pad composition has changed a lot since the mid-eighties so the 'original pads' in say pre '93 bikes probably had different ratings and pad materials.

There are plenty of older, low mileage bikes still running those original pads.

The manuals I consulted did not specify a friction co-efficient rating for the front or rear pads. I guess they leave that up to the rider to choose.

If you are already running HH sintered pads and still want better braking feel or less braking effort, you could install braided lines or upgrade the master cylinder.

actually my front brake has improved some since i 1st got the bike. prolly has had a chance to break in.

i have a set of braided hoses. just havnt got around 2 hookin em up yet.......2 busy ridin.....:rofl_200:.
 
hello all, i think what the difference on the EBC HH pads is that they have graphite impregnated in the friction material ,which causes the brakes not to bite into the rotors as harshly as stock pads, saving the longevity of the rotors.another benefit using graphite is the brakes are less likely to make noise when the brakes are applied . i find it strange that graphite is one of the prime ingredients for brake frictions in EBC HH,thinking it would negate the performance.
any way, i have them on my max, front and back and i feel that they are superb compared to the factory HH pads. best to you all buckridge
 
Let me tell you something, i too had hh sintered pads factory on my max and last week ordered a set of ebc hh's to put on the front of my 88 max --- and holy shit what a difference !!!! They far surpass the factory sintered pads !! So hh isnt created equal !!

Brake Pad Frictional Formulation

Brakes work on the crude principle of friction between two surfaces. To give a uniform measure of the frictional characteristics of a Brake Pad the SAE J866A test procedure is used to give a two character code e.g EE FF GG HH.


The EBC HH brake pads offer the highest friction rating for MAXIMUM stopping power. They are made from Sintered copper alloy for longer life and perfect braking under all riding conditions, wet, dry, hot or cold. Where required, unique STAINLESS STEEL radiator plates are fitted to reduce heat transfer into bikes hydraulics. The EBC unique ?Double Segment? VENTED design keeps pads cooler and prevents pad drag, overheat, and fade.

HH or GG


  • HH Pads These have the highest coefficient of Friction and are ideal for High performance motorcycles and race track use. Some modern performance motorcycles specify HH as standard. HH Pads can sometimes prove grabby, scary in the wet and ineffective in every day use when they fail to reach a good operating temperature. BUT.. when they are hot they grip very well. BE CAREFUL when moving off a sealed road unto an unsealed or loose surface (gravel) when your brakes are hot because that grip will lock up your tyres real quick.

  • GG Pads This grade of Pad is a great all rounder and will perform well in most conditions. GG are softer than HH pads and bed in quicker on worn discs.

  • Mixing HH and GG Pads Many manufacturer specify HH for the front of performance Motorcycles with GG in the rear. This is because GG pads can give you more feel and control of the back brake. It is not considered safe to use HH in the rear with GG pads in the front.
Obviously Pads are only as good as the condition of the whole braking system. When first used brake pads can sometimes give poor braking as residual moisture from manufacture process works its way out and the pads bed in. It is best to bed in pads with gentle use and very heavy initial use can result in glazing. A condition where the resins in the pad crystalize with resulting poor performance and squeal.


HH pads typically take several hundred applications to completely bed in. Take it easy when they are new.
