Dead on the water - PLS HELP!

I had that problem with my '86 here, but obviously it was a lot older than your '06! What had happened is someone had piggy-backed a battery tender connector to the main + wire coming from the main fuse to the harness, and over time corrosion had got into that wire where its insulation had been...

No spark on #1 at low revs

Hey Steve, I do indeed have power on both the wires feeding the coil - both measure just about 12V. What do you mean by continuity? Where would I test that? I've now sourced another TCI, so when I get the time, I'll be swapping it over and hope it'll fix my problem!

    just a random question

I'd say most common is black - came in most years and I've seen so many!

    vboost controller/manual?

The easiest / cleanest way to rig a manual setup is to use the left-hand switchgear from a Venture: it is the same as the vmax but has a manual choke cable which can easily be rigged to the vboost valves. Looks factory that way :)

Help. Can't find VIN, how to determine year?

It could be that in your country the original VIN plate was taken off and so the only number is whatever is in your papers / on the bike. As far as getting parts it's no prob - the forks is either pre or post '93, then there are no other differences. And the motor is either pre or post '90...

Are harness the same for all years?

I think those letters are also on the TCI ignition boxes - 3JP is the old analog ignition (85-89) and the other is the newer digital version that started in '90.

Help. Can't find VIN, how to determine year?

An engine number should always start with one number and two letters, such as 1UT or or 2WE, so the number you posted doesn't help much? Don't you have any paperwork for this bike?

    Bike becomes offended when wet???

Just wondering, did you ever take a look in the tank? Any rust there?

    measuring stator voltage

You should be measuring AC between the wires - not wire to ground. That's why you take three measurements, to make sure you try every combination of two wires: wire 1 + 2, 1 + 3, and 2 + 3. 37V AC is a little low, try revving up a bit more and you should see 50V AC with a healthy stator.

Help. Can't find VIN, how to determine year?

Have you checked the VIN on the title? That should tell you all you need to know. If there's no title or it doesn't match - stay clear! Bike's prolly stolen, or could be a write-off that's been put back on the road.

    Bike becomes offended when wet???

I also think your problem is most likely related to a combination of cracked coils / old HT leads / old or cracked spark plug caps. As Steve said have a look at it running in the dark to see if you can see any sparks flying from the HT leads or spark plug caps. Another very common one: the ends...

    measuring stator voltage

Indeed, as it is AC (not DC like the 12V battery) you simply test between any two of the three white wires, and repeat the test 3 times to make sure you tried every combination as this will show you all 3 stator windings are working. If the voltage goes well past 55-60V as you rev up to 5000rpm...

Has this happend to any one

I had problems with Tboost on my '86 after installing (DIY) COPs. Vboost functioned normally (opening from 5750rpm) but Tboost would only open near 9000rpm instead of 3000 as expected. Was never able to fix so gave up on Tboost and just used the normal and off positions. May be related?

Flat spot at about 4500 rpm.

I think you just go to your closest hardware store and grab some thin washers of the appropriate diameter. 0.04 might even be a bit too thick, it might have been 0.4mm which was 0.025"

Question about Bike's Year and Fuel used

I think they were 0.04" from memory, but as that's about 1mm it might be worth trying for 0.4mm (0.015")
