John From LA with Rare 1988 all original parts VMAX to good to be believed

Yours hasdone 2150 miles. You're saying you saw one with 300 times the miles for $6000? I make that 645,000 miles somehow I don't believe you.:P Fingers crossed the ankle surgery goes well, it'll take a few months to recover. The reality is that depending on whether you can change gear or...

    Intermittent V Boost

What do you mean by "act up" and "being unpredictable"? Have you recorded any data or is it purely subjective like "I'm at 6500 revs and my arms should be pulled out of my sockets". In addition to the above, have you checked the cable and motor are set up correctly, free to move and operating...

    oil temp gauge options

I've been thinking about this. I've been driving for many years in cars on on motorbikes and how many times do I remember asking myself "I wonder what my oil temperature is?" Answer 0. But if you insist, then hopefully I've given you a few options. Those BMW dashboardd are not gonna be cheap...

    oil temp gauge options

Having nothing to do whilst listening to Gogol Bordello had a search for car dashboards. BMW X3 is best option so far, available in both C and F, even has a oil can logo. No idea of size of course... but looks to be quite small.

Here's a photo that confirms what I've said, same orientation as above.

    Front brake master cylinder

It goes without saying wait until someone who has done this replies........ and in future take a photo when disassembling.... we've all done it, take it apart thinking its obvious how it goes back together. Lever < < hose .......... seals. This is what I would expect. It means the fluid...

4 pot brake calliper, piston diameter 30mm and 34mm BTW I'm not confirming but giving piston diameter for 4 pot.

    oil temp gauge options

I think you are out of luck, aftermarket guages seem to be 52mm (2inch) in diameter. The guage you show replaces the oil filler cap and is mechanical. The tube you see contains a fluid that when heated expands which causes another tube inside the gauge to change shape due to the pressure...

    Hesitation/Miss when it's windy

No but this is one of the strangest problems to date. My guess is that it's the sudden side to side movement that may be causing something to move so affect the fuel pick up in the carbs. . Need to think about this, as you say it's immediate then rules out most of what I wrote.

    Best stock carb kit

Is this a 3rd option? According to the exploded parts diagram. O ring over the E tube, E tube into the jet block, and finally the gasket sandwiched between carb body and jet block

    Windscreen

Interesting, that looks to be a chunky piece of Al alloy, up to now the ones I've seen have been formed from sheet metal. Potentially you could file the sides at bottom so the curve matches the lamp better but would need to take some metal off the top to keep the same thickness. There is...

    Exhaust like a shotgun

Yeah, that doesn't surprise me. Now you've got this far, I'd still recommend removing the jets and running through the soft metal 'files' as mentioned above. I did, tapping the jet on a table until all the powder stuff stopped.. That way I knew jets were clear so the hole size was what the...

    Exhaust like a shotgun

That is the jet block. Inside are two jets, one being the pilot jet. It can be removed without tearing the gasket, pull out the two rubber bungs then using the largest flat bladed screwdriver that fits into the hole, unscrew the jets.

    Windscreen

^^^^ I was going to suggest the same. Not sure which screen you have but mine is smoked perspex with a stainless steel frame, 4 black plastic bolts holding them together. If the metal frame cannot be reshaped, then a new one could be fabricated, using aluminium would be much easier than...

    Exhaust like a shotgun

I read about ultrasonic cleaning all the time but am not convinced it will clear a tiny hole (I estimate about 0.3 mm) especially if it is blocked solid. My understanding is that ultrasonic cleaners create tiny explosive bubbles (cavitation) in the liquid but in the case of pilot jets, liquid...

    Exhaust like a shotgun

When you stripped the carbs, did you remove both jets from the jet block and clean them out? The pilot jet has a tiny hole that is easilyy blocked. Mine, a Canadian model imported from Japan, had been satanding for a while and the pilot jets were blocked solid; when trying to run it would...

    Puzzled.

Firstly congratulations on your diagnosis - 100% correct. (my approach would have been to use an endoscope and attempt to fish out the screw with a magnet, (there's no guarantee that looking for foreign objects or their subsequent extraction would have worked, whereas head off did) . My hunch...
