    Cooling System Hose Kit

Does anyone make a hose kit for the 1st generation V-Max. I'm thinking if I order them piece by piece from Yamaha it might get a little expensive. I noticed one of the carb boots is cracked also, so I might as well replace all the rubber around the carbs to. This is a 1988 model that hasn't...

    Understanding VBoost

But if each cylinder is operating off 1 carb, what is the advantage of opening the manifold between the 2 carbs? Unless - 1 cylinder is only using 1 carb during the intake stroke. If the intake strokes are at different times, then when the butterfly is open, 1 cylinder is taking air and fuel at...

    Understanding VBoost

I read the FAQ and some other threads, but still have a question. The Vboost is a tube with butterflies between the manifolds on each bank that opens at 6,000 rpm. Does the VMax engine normally use 1 carb per engine side(or 2 cylinders), then when VBoost kicks in it opens an additional carb per...

Traveling on an early Generation I

Thanks! I was hoping this to be the case. It will take some time to get it in shape, but I had rather travel on a classic V Max than buy some newer fat bike for travel.

Traveling on an early Generation I

Are the early bikes(1988) trustworty enough to travel on if in good condition? Probably 1 thousand mile round trips. I'm thinking replace the wheel, neck, swing arm bearings and the rubber items around the carbs, get suspension in good condition and she should be good to go.

    Suspension set up

Now that I think about it, had a friend with a Honda Magna that did something I would descrive as the rear dancing around. It did it, not so much under acceleration, but going straight on crowned roads. Seems like old tires was the culprit.

    Suspension set up

As the others said, you need to list more info on the bike. Especially the year and tire. I've had a skipping sensation on a sport bike in hard turns. Adjusting the rebound fixed it. I don't think the V Max's have rebound adjustment, but I'm thinking if its suspension in your case, its either...

    Best color for V Max

Hmmm, hadn't thought of white. I have seen some Harley's in white that I really liked. Its unanimous that I should pick whatever color I like best, so thats what I shall do. I will update this thread on my decision. Thanks!

    Best color for V Max

I'm considering painting the V Max. Its 1988 red, and probably a little faded out. It reminds me of the Ford red of the 1980's and how it faded out to a burnt red color. Is the original red color a burnt red shade of red? I don't want to paint it black, because my sport bike is completely...

Does the bike have the color code located on it?

match paint 1988 Red V Max

Has anyone matched the red paint on the 1988 V Max? Looks like original paint, its a very fine metallic red with clearcoat. I tried Colorite, they have no Yamaha listings for 1988. I copied this info from another thread, according to this the 1988 should have black scoops. Mine has...

    Economical front suspension?

Whats the best low cost forks do-over? I'm thinking just springs and oil. No emulators or fork swaps for now. Suggestions for springs and oil? I'm about 190# Thanks in advance!

Are you a new member? Come here and say hi!

I joined in 2008 thinking I wanted a V-Max, ended up going sport bikes. So nearly 3 years later I finally come home with a 1988 V-Max. I really like it, but there's definately work to do on this suspension. It dives so bad I don't believe there's oil in the forks. Another problem is that the...
