    Paint. Experts chime in please

Learned a ton from this video link. Outstanding, thank you. I would love to do this at some point. I think for now, it will have to be a primer/base/clear type paint process with what I have on hand.

Yes, sorry, I'm new to the 2002 and the color scheme. You are correct. I was wondering how they got the carbon fiber dark gray look. I was looking for seat fabric online and realized that there are some pretty inexpensive ways to do decals and wraps to get that kind of look. I don't know how...

    Plug chop test results...

Wow... thanks for that! I had never seen that thread before now. Super helpful. It looks to me that there are some mentioning in that thread to go up on the pilot fuel and down on the mains. If so, I can see why I have to go 5-7 turns out on the a/f screws... Alright... unfortunately I am on...

Is this rattle can paint an acrylic or a urethane paint? I have some leftover gloss black urethane enamel and clear but this silver really catches the eye. I wonder what is the approximate cost for the paint?

    Plug chop test results...

It is a single filter. I've used K&N before and have one of those in my 85. This UNI came installed in the bike. I might be splitting hairs.... but my 85 feels slightly stronger. It has the same OEM configuration, but uses a single K&N with the OEM exhaust, and 147.5 main jets. I have some...

    Plug chop test results...

Funny you mention that. I put 147.5s in my 85 many years ago.... I have some 147.5s on the way. It will be nice to have 152.5, 150, and 147.5 to experiment with.

02 model. UNI air filter. OEM exhaust. 5700ft elevation. 150 main jets. I have this color at idle, mid, and full. Are we going for the light tan or the light gray?

I think you are right in this case... I painted my 85 gloss black and it looks great with the silver trim or chrome everywhere else. Ok, I think I'll re-paint it. Is it best to get the round logos off the faux tank with a piece of thread?

Crikey that looks great. Wow. Love that silver better when the rims are black like that.

So I have the 2002 Silver Dust edition bike. Do y'all think I could get a decent result by reapplying a nice clear coat or would I be better off just painting a solid color? I know it's opinion but I don't know how Yamaha got the paint pattern to look like this and I'm not sure how deep these...

Hard to find neutral, when bike heats up???

Agree, absolutely. Thanks for the response. The pic I sent there was after flushing enough fluid through to clear it up so that I could see the sludge. After I noticed it, I was able to clean most of it out. It looked exactly like I imagined fluid should look if it came with the bike in 2002...

Hard to find neutral, when bike heats up???

Well this sludge didn't help any... So.. easy stuff first. I flushed the front and rear brakes and also the clutch hydraulics. Bad weather, so I'll have to wait a while for a ride test but the brakes are firm like they should be now and I hope the new, clear fluid will help improve clutch...

Hard to find neutral, when bike heats up???

Oil change takes me 10 mins. I think I'll try the rotella. Makes sense to try the easiest thing first.

Chinese carb rebuild kits: run, don't walk!

....and if you don't want to repeat the process every 3 months all year long, drain those float bowls if the bike is gonna sit longer than a few weeks, and don't use fuel with ethanol in it!

Chinese carb rebuild kits: run, don't walk!

For anyone else out there who may be about to try and tackle a vmax carb problem.... maybe this will help. I stitched together some stuff here to get it all on the same picture. Together, here are the part numbers as well as the diagram showing where these critical plugs go. It's obvious...

Chinese carb rebuild kits: run, don't walk!

So I had to make due with the trash Chinese generic carb rebuild parts while waiting on Yamaha. This means my carbs had some lame #$$ jet block plugs in there. And this means carb issues. So if you think you can't afford 8 jetblock plugs from Yamaha, just be prepared for a loss of combustion on...

Hard to find neutral, when bike heats up???

Has anyone here actually done this bending of the shift fork? Does the right side cover use a fiber gasket or just silicone? I'm experiencing this issue of "shifting much worse when warmed up" on my 02. My 85 shifts like butter in all situations. But... it also has a single piece stainless...

Part number for float bowl drain screw o-rings?

Thank you. I'm sorry, I meant to post a pic. It's part of the screw that opens the drain tubes.

Part number for float bowl drain screw o-rings?

Does anyone know the part number for the o-rings that fit onto the float bowl drain screws? I need a set.
